Re: Port Removal standard of care

I was diagnosed stage IIIC and my onc had my port implanted Nov 19,2010. I just had it removed on July 18,2013. My onc wanted me to pass the two year mark as he felt I had a high chance of reoccurrence. Prior to removal i had a CT Scan and Colonoscopy. Like you, I had no problems with my port. It fl...

Re: Ray Manzarek The doors RIP- Bile Duct cancer ?

My Aunt also had bile duct cancer and the resulting resection. She has just surpassed 10 years cancer free. When I had my consultation at Roswell Park Cancer Institute her in Buffalo, I had been asked to identify all known cancers in my lineage. My Mother had colon cancer in her early 50's and my Au...

Re: Are these side effects from FOLFOX?

Hi Kiwi, I did not vomit or have diarrhea during Folfox. Instead I was terribly constipated with some abdominal pain. However, I had heartburn like I can't even describe. My onc told me to take Gaviscon and it helped immensely. I went through bottles of it during treatment. He described it to me as ...

Re: Pouch suction

I always thought it had something to do with the filter on my bag. I find that the bag almost always suctions to me until the filter is either touched by matter or is in use over 24 hours.

Re: JP Drain, 1YEAR and others, please read...

After both of my abdominal surgeries they removed the JP drain and about a day later I woke up in the middle of the night covered in milky, bloody fluid. It was a lot! My sheets and nightgown were saturated. If there is a build up it is possible it will make its way out so don't panic if this should...

Re: Massage Therapy for Neuropathy

Thank you for the feedback. I guess at this point it can't get any worse so I might be looking into both massage therapy and acupuncture. :)

Massage Therapy for Neuropathy

Curious to know if anyone has tried massage therapy to help cope with neuropathy in their feet and legs? Did it help at all? I am almost 2 years out from the end of Folfox and have had minimal improvement. I ran into a woman who said she has used massage therapy to treat neuropathy related to her Le...

Re: Vision problems while on Folfox??

I had blurry vision on and off during chemo. My onc said it could be the steroids or the oxali. Also, I had terrible first tear pain. It would subside but that first tear always burned.

Re: Juicers . . . Brands n Functionality

I forgot to mention my 2 favorite recipes: 2 oranges, 3 or 4 celery stalks, and a big handful of baby spinach. The outcome is a bright lime green color! 2 off the vine tomatoes, 3or 4 stalks celery, 2 stalks kale, small handful parsley, half a lemon, 2 carrots, and sometimes I jazz it up with a slic...

Re: Juicers . . . Brands n Functionality

Hi. I have a Hurom Juicer and Brevelle Ikon Juicer. The Hurom is a slow juicer like Raym has described and while I like the output the best, it definitely takes a lot of time to use. Especially if juicing stringy greens like kale and celery. I have yet to get through a juicing without serious cloggi...

Re: Holy Sh*t

Oh dear. I started out excited to hear about the bags and was thinking they might be a good choice for me. Then I reached the part about the explosion. I guess I won't look for those particular bags. I've been fortunate. I'm just shy of 3 years with a colostomy and have never experienced an explosio...

Re: 2013: Survivor stories

The day before my diagnosis I was at work and experiencing severe abdominal cramps. I left work and went to my family doctor. He scheduled a CT for the next morning and sent me home with directions to go to the ER if it became worse. Thankfully, my mother spent the evening at my house I woke up at 8...

Re: Stuart Scott

I had an interesting experience the other day. I have a colostomy. It is most likely permanent, although my surgeon hasnt given up convincing me to try reversal again. Anyway, I am in a meeting the other day. Three of us, one my friend and coworker and the other was a manager of another department. ...

Re: CEA question

I had an interesting experience I can share. This past May I had a CEA reading increase for the first time in 2 years. It went up by about 1.3 points. I was freaking out. I also started reading my other test results and I had a liver test, I forget which one, with results that were about 5 times hig...
