Pathology results are in

I had my surgery 8/20/19 at Md Anderson in Houston. I was stage 3C rectal cancer. The tumor had grown into my posterior vaginal wall. Surgery consisted of APR (abdominal perineal resection), complete hysterectomy (was gonna keep these organs but when they got in there said it had to come out), vagin...

Re: Bladder retention after major surgery

Thank you all! It slowly seems to be getting better but I can tell I don’t have the same sensations for urgency and what not. I kinda just pee when I think I feel some pressure. I’m hopeful it’ll get better over next few weeks

Bladder retention after major surgery

So I had major surgery (12 hours) done on 8/20 and my bladder is slow to wake up. They took Foley catheter out Thursday. I am peeing but just a little at a time. Any advice or how long did this last for anyone else that experienced it?? I’m worried I’m going to have permanent issues!

Had my surgery...ended up with colostomy bag

Had my surgery here at md Anderson in Houston on Tuesday. Lower anterior resection, vaginal reconstruction and hysterectomy. My surgeon explained to me I needed to be mentally prepared to have either permanent colostomy or temporary illeostomy. She wouldn’t know until she got in there. Apparently wh...

Re: Whole rectum removed

So I just spoke with my surgeons PA about my surgery which is scheduled for 8/20. She informed me my whole rectum would be removed which was news to me. I do not remember getting that news. The surgeon said she should be able to hook me back up. I am spiraling about having the whole rectum removed ...

Re: Vaginal stenosis - an issue for women with rectal cancer

I am a month out from radiation for rectal cancer and having a lot of brownish vaginal discharge. Is this normal?? I was told by my doc it was but it seems like a lot and I am worried. CMarie: I believe your physician is correct in lowering your alarm level with regards to the brownish vaginal disc...

Re: New here - rectal cancer, very nervous about radiation

I am sorry you have to go through this. I am a stay at home mom of a 3yo and 10mo. I was diagnosed stage 3 rectal cancer. Read the thread on here about vaginal stenosis. Search for it - good info and these women helped me a lot. Get a good set of dialators or stay sexually active (obv post surgery y...

Clustering advice

I am one week out from radiation for rectal cancer. I’m experiencing clustering. Does anyone have any good advice? It has me in tears bc I have a 3yo and 9mo and it’s so hard to be tied up in bathroom. It’s always worst in mornings. My doctor told me it may go away, it may not. She suggested fiber c...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

I wanted to pop on here and encourage those of you fighting this current battle with colon and rectal cancer that there is hope. I know that not everyone receives their healing from this horrible disease, but I am living proof that it can and does happen. 10 years ago I was given a 50/50 chance of ...

CMarie: There are several options for low dose options for hormone replacement therapy that you can consider with your medical team, especially considering your mother’s history. And remember . . . Re: Radiation induced menopause

Hi. I underwent radiation and went into instant menopause. My periods just stopped, had instant hot flashes and couldn't sleep. My gyno and oncologist decided that it would be best if I went on hormone replacement and it has been a life saver. It is scary to think that it will all be instant but yo...
