Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

I was just using a colorful term for the area in the rectum that’s in the radiation field when rectal cancer is treated. Even with current technology, healthy rectal tissue is irradiated, which causes permanent damage. In some cases, this can lead to an accelerated polyp process in that area. Gosh ...

@Madmed ! Welcome to the WW club ! Reporting my 3.5 years of WW journey as of July !! Looking forward to the 4 year mark now... even had the next scope and scan booked in December ! I had a bit of a scare on the PET as something lit up in the nose area. Had to follow up with an ENT with several test...

Re: 10 years NED and released by my oncologist today.

Huge huge congrats and lotsa of hugs !!

Were you seeing your onc for blood work monitoring ?

What was the agreement for a 10 years track?

Most patients would have been released at the 5 years mark !

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

@PRS, Jolene and Mozart123, i promised to report back from Pre-OP. I had a very long and good meeting with the surgeon, we reviewed the MRI which stated "dramatic improvement from treatment" it mentioned one tiny area of hyperintensity that could be intraluminal fluid or remaining cancer....

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Funny you should ask, I’m about to head out to get an MRI done. Simgmoidoscopy and DRE plus MRI results Wednesday. I’m feeling anxious, hoping for W&W but aware that it is unlikely. I will report back as I find out. Thanks for reaching out. MadMed, you are at eight weeks from the end of radiati...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi Jolene, You're lucky your surgeon is pro-WW. It seems that surgeons favor cutting for the most part. The odds they cite for local recurrence are usually in the 90+%. But there's trials now for organ preservation that show it's a viable path. The protocol you are on sounds very good, i hope to be...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi Jolene, I don't believe what i described is an accepted protocol, at least not by my oncologist. It just made sense to me that signatera could be used in addition to the regular WW protocol. On this board some have already gotten the test and it seems to affect the frequency of the watch part. W...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi all, newly diagnosed not even in treatment yet, but avidely reading this forum. I had read this thread before meeting with my surgeon today and he brought up Habr-Gama himself. He made it clear that he was not a fan but wanted me to be informed of this. According to him, the new standard of care...

Re: Oxaliplatin induced ototoxicity (hearing problems)

Hello all - Thanks for the response and feedback. The tinnitus is getting worse by the day. I could only hear it just before going to bed at night, these days I can even hear it during the day !! Apparently vitamin B complex can help with nerve function. I've been taking it for almost 2 weeks but it...
