Re: A day in the life...

Grace, according to my surgeon there is no cancer at the surgical site. This is in a node between the rectum and the spine. It showed up first on a CT and my CEA starting gradually rising. By the time they did a Petscan my CEA was at 35. As far as not worrying about the colostomy I turned it down 3 ...

A day in the life...

...of a patient with a permanent colostomy. I haven't posted much but I read here all the time. There are times I think I'll go crazy and then I come here and it calms me down. Well, long story short my cancer is back and my surgeon wants to do a permanent colostomy. I have looked into Cyberknife an...

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAYNEE!

Jaynee I hope you know how much you mean to me. You've gotten me through some very tough times. I hope you had a great day and I'm so glad you got to talk to the kids. As a Mom I know how much that means. And what do you mean old? Don't count the birthdays... Count the happys! Happy Birthday, girlie...

Re: Just had my six month checkup

Jaynee I am so glad that your news is good. No one deserves it more than you. As one that you took under your wing many months ago, I consider myself lucky to call you friend.

Your son (and you) will be in my prayers.

Hugs...Nancy

Re: New Member

As you can see from my post count I mostly lurk here. But I had to respond when I read your post. We have identical stats right down to the location of our tumors. Where we differ is when it comes to the surgery. I had a TEM so I have no ileo and I'm finally healed enough to start my adjuvant chemo ...

Re: TEM Rectal Surgery outcome and recommendations study

Okay I must be the newest member on here to have had the TEM procedure as I just had it 6 days ago. You might say I'm sitting "softly". hehe Rickker, I must admit to being a little shocked at the numbers that you posted for recurrence rates. Until Jaynee put them in perspective that is. My...

Re: Post-TEM experience?

Glad to know you've had such a positive response, Fanatik. I was just curious this morning when I posted my questions. Now I'm a little more concerned because I started running a slight fever this afternoon. But my surgeon called to check on me and he says he thinks everything is right on track. Tha...

Re: Post-TEM experience?

Thanks Jaynee. I just kind of wondered if drinking gallons more water or maybe staying as much as possible with the clear liquids might help sort of flush things through. I figure I don't want food sitting in the "holding tank" so to speak. hehe Just email me if you get some email addys th...

Post-TEM experience?

I had TEM surgery this past Wednesday and I'm getting along fine, I guess. Don't really have anything to compare it with. Anyway, from what I understand the biggest risk I face right now is as I add soft foods to my diet there is the increased risk of infection at the wound site. I am going to be ca...

Re: Not cancer related (hopefully!) but need some input- UPDATE

Jaynee I'm so sorry that you didn't get any good answers. And I'm not too young to remember Calgon or Aquarius... errr... or would that be Sagittarius now? Anyway, I share your concern for Prednisone as it's some very potent stuff. Taken in small doses it can treat a lot of problems but taken...

Re: Dodged Bullet, w/Lesson

I haven't posted much but here's what I took away from your post, Fletch. I'm glad you got good news just sorry you had to angst over it. But I wondered how much you had to pay for that CD. My hospital was wanting $48.00 + tax for 45 pages of 2 test results. I know everyone says to keep all the resu...

Re: Just waiting and waiting!!

Hey Jaynee! We all know we'd change places with our kids in a flash when they're in pain. But Erik is young and he'll heal fast. Before you know it he'll be out and about and you won't be able to track him down.

Thinkin' good thoughts for you and your family.

Re: Xeloda users

I am 21 treatments into my 25 chemo/radiation treatments and my Xeloda 500mg is $150 per 30 day supply. Doesn't matter how many are in that 30 day supply. And it's been overnighted both times. I have no choice but to purchase it from my mail order "specialty pharmacy" but I've been satisfi...

Low WBC

Onc stopped my Xeloda last Tuesday because my WBC had dropped to 2.8. He did tell me to continue my radiation treatments and that I can start my Xeloda again on Monday morning. I'll have bloodwork done on Tuesday to see where I stand. I am just over half way done with both treatments and feel pretty...
