Re: Post surgery update

Quick update. MRI on liver came back with good news. Doctors said just a cyst, no evidence of cancer. Also I have started the Xeloda. 5000 mg a day. I did 3600 a day during radiation. I do notice a difference. I only just started, day 5 of cycle 1, but I definitely feel nauseous, tired, and my const...

Re: Partial bowel obstruction

Interesting. I’ve been avoiding pain pills since I don’t want to get backed up any worse. I do have a long history of back problems, exactly where it hurts now. The pain is different though. I thought maybe it’s because I’ve been spending so much time in bed. Who knows. I’m doing the McKenzie stretc...

Re: Partial bowel obstruction

Thanks for all that info. It hasn’t been fun. I have a pain in my lower left back / Hip area that alternates between a fairly intense ache and shooting pain. I’ve been drinking coffee, taking the Miralax and drinking prune juice, sometimes heated, sometimes not. I still haven’t had the big evacuatio...

Re: Partial bowel obstruction

They said to continue with the Miralax. The doctor said the pain I have is not related to the surgery, though I find that hard to believe. But, like I said earlier, I’ve had a herniated disc for several years that I need to constantly maintain, which I have not been able to do since surgery, but I h...

Re: Partial bowel obstruction

Well they said there was no evidence of blockage, but that I had a lot of stool on the right side.

I’m still not having much luck passing anything substantial. Lots of gas and some matter coming out so I guess things are moving along, albeit slower than I would like.

More prune juice I guess.

Re: Partial bowel obstruction

I think this must be what’s happening to me. I’ve had a persistent, worse than usual pain in my lower left back & hip area. I did have a pre-existing disc herniation that has troubled me for many years, so at first I thought it was that flaring up again. I have been passing mucous and gas and no...

Re: What To Expect With Surgery

I had my surgery almost 4 weeks ago. I woke up without an ileostomy. I had a laparoscopic LAR. Surgeon took my sigmoid and about half my rectum. I was up and walking after a few days. I just walked 8 km the other day. Ive read it’s good to stimulate your bowels, however I’ve been having a lot of con...

Re: Post surgery update

The surgeon says rectal.

I’m leaning very heavily towards doing the 4 cycles of Xeloda.

Re: Post surgery update

I just came from the oncologist. Final staging is T3N0M0 - stage 2A He did not recommend chemo, but said I can do 4 cycles of Xeloda if I choose, and that there is no evidence that it improves your chance of a cure, though he did say that it may give you a 1 or 2% bump. I’m not sure what to do. He d...

Re: Fasting during/after chemo

Oh I see. I didn’t realize any of that, I just know some of the reported benefits of intermittent fasting.

Re: What surgery should I have?

I had my surgery one week ago. I only spoke to the surgeon on his morning rounds while I was still in the hospital, so I don’t have all the details yet, but from what I remember, he said that I have more than half my rectum left. I forgot to ask how much was taken on the sigmoid side though. No ileo...

Re: Fasting during/after chemo

Why don’t you try a modified intermittent fasting approach?

Stop eating after your 2nd Xeloda of the day.
