Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

In England, it is not standard to have chemotherapy on watch and wait, but I asked my oncologist to look at the latest research and he said it would improve my survival chances if I did, so I had it. I had 3 months as he had seen research that this would be just as effective as 6 months. Take care.

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi all, I am on a watch and wait program for rectal cancer after a radiologically complete response. My last scans, sigmoidoscopies etc were around 14 months since I finished radiotherapy and fortunately were clear and I have more coming up this month. I noticed this very interesting research for an...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Just to summarise off the top of my head the lifestyle changes that Dr Fuchs of Yale University mentions in the article to help improve survival chances for patients who already have colorectal cancer. 1) Daily low dose aspirin (although this needs to be done under medical recommendation and supervi...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Watch and wait update Hi Everyone, Just an update on how my watch and wait is going. I was diagnosed stage 3 rectal cancer with spread to 2 lymph nodes and T3a in November 2018 and finished radiotherapy at the end of January 2019. Incredibly fortunately I had a clinically complete response. I chose ...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi Annie50, I am sorry about the delay in replying to you about my saying that the risk of recurrence is significantly less after 2 years. I only come on here at distant intervals. This actually referred to the risk of local regrowth of the tumour in the rectum, not distant metastasis. Please see th...

Thank you Peter and absolutely I am hoping to get to that 2 year mark where the chances of local recurrence fall considerably.

Take Care,

Re: Rectal Cancer Stage 3b or 4 (Still being Diagnosed) in London England

Hello again and my apologies for not replying sooner. When I posted this I was in shock and actually lost track of the fact that I had posted. I was not told a CEA score after diagnosis. Very fortunately the liver spots turned out to be benign so I was diagnosed at stage 3. I then had chemoradiother...

Rectal Cancer Stage 3b or 4 (Still being Diagnosed) in London England

Hello All, I am a 60 year old male who was picked up by the national bowel cancer screening fecal occult blood test program which every adult gets sent in the UK at 60. I am experiencing absolutely no symptoms at all, don't smoke, have a healthy diet, do a lot of walking and am not overweight and so...
