Re: will I ever be able to think of anything else?

I still think about it daily. When it creeps up it is usually a motivator..but sometimes it can still tap me on the shoulder and make me think. It has inspired me to seek out a spriritual path because I was so ill equipped to deal with pain, suffering, and loss. I have learned so much more compassio...

A friend being disappointed about a clear colonoscopy

I read a lot but don't post much, but I knew some of you would understand this. A fairly new friend who knows I had rectal cancer has been complaining of bowel issues. I told her to get a colonoscopy if there was any sort of opportunity. But then I could tell she way over dramatized the prep and pro...

Re: Gaelen's FCR Post (You will cry.Warning)

Dear Gaelen, your words are so beautiful and tug at my heart. I am training to become a hospice volunteer and your words will help me. I want to take the time to read through your other blogs because there is a lot to be learned. You have dealt with it all. You are a navigator and a guide who has al...

Re: When it's time, you know...

Gaelen, you are one of the sages here that I have learned so much from. I know you are not into flowery terms, but you have always handled your journey with grace. You remind me of a friend who says 'always own your own s**t!" Own every bit of it, figure it out, face it, deal with it, put it in...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

Today is my Birthday and Cancerversary. I celebrate being NED 4 years, and 41 sweet years on this earth! I will spend my lifetime making up for that 37th birthday when I was told I had cancer. Which is wonderful, because it reminds me to keep doing amazing things and do them now :D so glad I didn't ...

Re: Colonoscopy perfect at 4 yrs!

Thanks all for the kind congratulations, and Toby57, If you are a 3B then possibly I was also, my tumor was 5cm through the wall, subserosa, and into the peri-rectal fat with the 4 nodes involved so maybe my tumor was considered a T4? rather than T3? I remember being told I was a Dukes C, then the s...

Colonoscopy perfect at 4 yrs!

Well, aside from the anastamosis @ 12cm...but all was good, they only noted viewing my surgical site and unremarkable otherwise. After I felt like the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" after 40 hrs no food (those with kids will know that book) I ate one corned beef boxty at an irish pub (no beer, ...

Need advice from active sports people

I was an avid hiker years ago and I am wanting to go on hikes again. They are usually 2-4hrs up mountains, and through wilderness. I have joined some hiking groups but during my last attempt with a friend I ended up turning around and uncomfortably running back to the grocery store below where we st...

Wow the amount of things I now know about the colon, rectum and cancer! But more importantly the things I now know about how to "get my big girl panties on and deal with it"! :D

Thanks CC

Re: What would you tell another cancer patient about the CC?

My view of the Colon Club: Knowledge is power and makes things not so frightening or insurmountable. Here you learn from others who have been on the journey for a while, connect with those who are new, and even learn from those who have passed - know what to expect, what to do, how to enjoy life and...

Re: How long was yours?

I had a 5cm tumor located 10cm up at the rectosigmoid junction - classified and treated as rectal cancer- since they were dealing with a large tumor likely advanced cancer they took 18inches and got out 33 nodes with a LAR laproscopic mesorectal excision. 4 of those 33 nodes were cancerous. I have n...

Re: Clear PET Scan

That is super great news - How wonderful is that to wait for results to get an all clear?! You did what you needed to do for now and had great results - what a way to start the year! Enjoy! That should be even more motivating with gardening time just around the corner :D

Thanks for the replies - most seem to still get CEA every 3mo and scans at 6mo - I think I will keep along that route.

Re: Question for women with rectal cancer

Radiation sucks - With sex I thought I'd never get through the discomfort, bleeding, menopause symptoms and tearing (didn't even do that with having my 8lb 4oz boy 2 years previous - just shows how radiation shrinks tissues ruins the elasticity and damages). I really thought that part of my life was...
