Just Sing, People, Just Sing

Greetings, wonderful friends and Colon Club family of Mary Catherine Dykhouse (just sing). She passed away last night, while resting peacefully and comfortably. She spent the last several days in hospice and in the presence of friends, family and laughter. She gained tremendous support from all of y...

Re: Leg/Ankle Edema

MIne just started swelling up a few days ago. My onc suspects that it's a lack of protein for me OR it could be a small clot somewhere. I was off my Lovenox when I was neutropenic a few weeks back and it may have snuck in then. Anyway, he said to increase the protein in my diet and reduce the sodium...

Re: Update on jdepp's Supraclavicular Node (aka Virchow's Node)

I don't have time right now to read everyone else's posts, so sorry if this is repeat info. Voice of MC: LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE!!!!!!! I hate to say it, but that was the first place I noticed any symptoms when I recurred. In my case it was big enough to feel and see, so it's very different from you...

Re: HIPEC with only lymph node mets

I think you're missing one of the crucial aspects of HIPEC, or at least as it's been explained to me. (Full disclosure - it was explained to me by Bartlett and Co) HIPEC depends upon the barrier that exists between the interior systems in our body: vascular, lymphatic, etc -- being CLOSED. That mean...

Re: HIPEC: What's it like?

You've probably been there already, but there is a site www.hotchemo.com which at one time had a pretty active message board / forum. You may find a lot of first hand stories there.

Re: small bowel obstruction

I had an obstruction in the small bowel which was very early in the gut and they were able to resolve it by placing a stent endoscopically (they ended up needing a colonoscope to reach it, but it was still done by going down my throat) So I didn't need slice and dice surgery. BUT, my surgeon was rea...

Re: Who would you choose for HIPEC surgery?

Matt Holtzman is my surgeon and he is legend in these here parts. Can't say enough good things about him. He was right back at my side during my latest Odyssey and visited me every evening at the end of his long days, just to check in and make sure I was doing OK. Didn't end up needing him for my ob...

Re: Back in the big house!

Going HOME!!! going home for 10 more days of IV antibiotics at home which will be a new and exciting experience. But I'm glad to be getting out of here even though everyone has been lovely! It pays to be a pleasant patient. I was in the ER on Thursday and there were no beds open in the whole hospita...

Re: How do I know if it's a blockage?

Although most people do experience pain, I did not and that delayed my diagnosis in a big way. Vomiting: definitely Pain: not necessarily I had a stricture very early in the small bowel and so I was experiencing an ever increasing sense of fullness and then it would be like one last swallow of saliv...

Re: best adult diapers

Thanks for all the prompt and helpful info! I knew I could count on yinz guys. I have been using Always extra long sanitary napkins for a while now to catch the occasional 'gas plus" emissions, and they really work great for that. But until this round of Irinotecan clears and my white counts ar...

best adult diapers

OK. I'm experiencing some major diarrhea and am not sure how to deal with it when out in the world. I've never had so many accidents and I've got a bathroom three feet away!!! Has anyone done any comparison shopping on various brands of adult diapers to contain very watery diarrhea? I want to buy so...

Re: cancer vaccine clinical trial

Melanoma and glioblastoma are the poster children for cancer vaccines. They are both very immuno - responsive. Colon cancer, alas, has not shown itself to be quite so poster-worthy. But there have been some pretty successful trials. One of the aspects of the trial I did was to explore several differ...
