Re: RixinPhx in Hospital

Hi, all- Things have continued to go poorly since Wed nite ER visit. I got a liter of saline/dextrose, and was released yesterday noon when I was able to hold down an ice cream bar. That came up today, and nothing else is staying down, nor is anything coming out; no BM, no gas. Ran some errands toda...

Re: MaX DOSAGE FOR Spironolactone ?

Spironalactone is a strong diuretic, especially helpful for ridding the peritoneum of excess fluid (ascites), and for lower leg edema.
I''m currently receiving 50mg morning and evening; I understand this is 1/2 of the maximum dosage for me, a 170 lb man.

Re: cancer without a caregiver?

Since Dx 26 months ago, I have been going it alone, living in a couple rooms provided by a freind who is on temporary duty out of town. I've been able to keep up with errands, simple meals, housekeeping, and yardwork fairly well. A sister in Phoenix has always been available to help with errands and...

Re: Breathing Difficulty

When my ascites is bad enough to need tapping (about 3.5 lts for me), then it is pushing upward on the diaphragm and restricting good breathing. Removal of the fluid immediately relieves the pressure. Breathing is easier the moment you get out of the treament stretcher. Good luck, it's really an eas...

Re: RixinPhx in Hospital

HI, ALL! Been lazing around the hospital room, doing the Jello/broth liq diet 'til this morning. Been able to hold down everything, no nausea, and passing gas well. Had a deep discussion with the entire med team, and my sister was present to assist in the questioning. Removed the NG tube, very smoot...

Re: Need a pep talk...

What's your favorite cheese with a whine like that?? A sharp cheddar is mine, and it goes nicely with golden delicious apples or even apple pie!! Just kidding Karin, I know it can all seem kinda pointless. But if it keeps you here for another few months, and is still doable to you with some enjoymen...

Good job!

How many to go, 11 more?

On day 2, I'm usually a little buzzed with the decadron steroid, so that might be why you were feeling srprisingly normal.

Re: RixinPhx in Hospital

SUCCESS!!! The NG tube is still in place, but has been disconnected since 2 pm yesterday. The nurses do 'residual' testing every 4 hours to verify there's less than 200 ml stomach contents (which in turn indicates that the obstruction has cleared enough to allow the stomach to empty). All tests have...
