Re: Newbie trying to get up to speed...

See quick responses below … Remaining questions and actions: 1. although the pathology report has been "2nd-opinioned" (from the lab and "verified" by the hospital's pathology dept), my intention is to have the major cancer center runs another histopathology analysis Great! I had...

Re: Staging and treatment options.

Like Beckster, I was on Xeloda for six months. I took 6,000 mg daily—two weeks on, one week off. Side effects included skin darkening, rashes, occasional fatigue, some dehydration, and elevated creatinine levels; I didn’t have any problems with diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. All in all, it was very ...

Re: Stage IIIb, T4 tissue invasion. 12 yrs ago.

I have been NED for 12 years now. I am thankful for each day since that NED diagnosis. And I hope you can be lucky or blessed to achieve a similar good outcome as I received. My prayers are that you will. Congrats on being NED for 12 years! Many thanks for your encouragement to those of us who are ...

CORRECTION: Sorry, I misread the question. My GI doctor schedules my colonoscopies; my MSK oncologist schedules my CT scans.

Re: I've graduated!

How sweet it is! Congratulations! You are an inspiration to all of us who hope and pray that one day we’ll be able to look back over a 13-year journey from diagnosis and say, “I’m fine.”

Enjoy the rest of the summer. Hope yesterday is just the beginning of your best year yet.

Re: Newbie trying to get up to speed...

The only thing that I can suggest is getting a second pathology on your tumor. Was your pathology done at a Designated Cancer Center https://www.cancer.gov/research/nci-role/cancer-centers? These centers are usually at major cancer centers. I would seriously consider getting a second opinion. You c...

Re: Staging and treatment options.

Husband was stage IIB in 2009. Choose not to do chemo. NED from 2009 until April 2019 - recurrence spread to peritoneum and liver (none in colon) now Stage4c. In Hindsight Husband said if he had to do it over again he would have chosen in 2009 to do the chemo just in case that would have helped in ...

Re: Reminder: Don't forget your Vitamin D!

While 42 percent of the US population is vitamin D deficient, this rate rises to 82 percent for Blacks and 70 percent for Hispanics because high amounts of melanin in the skin reduce the body’s ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight. As a dark-skinned African American, taking one 5,000 IU softge...

Re: Staging and treatment options.

Dave, My signature will give you a sense of my journey to date, but I want to emphasize the need for a pathology second opinion. After my right hemicolectomy with Stage IIA, pathologists at my community hospital identified no high-risk factors (pT3N0) , which is why my local oncologist recommended s...

Re: Quick intro -- diagnosed Friday

Stay positive and stay strong, but also stay vigilant. Zack, I think Andre is spot-on about staying positive and strong AND staying vigilant. After my resection surgery last July, pathologists at a local community hospital identified no high-risk factors. My local oncologist therefore recommended s...
