Re: Frequent Bowel Movements 3 to 4 Days After 5-FU Leucouvorin Disconnect

Paula, Is there a reason a colonoscopy is not being done? That's basic stuff and the only way to get a good look around in there. Nate, I tried just about everything to help with the constipation and the only thing to worked at all was Miralax. Take it the day before and day of infusion and it shoul...

Re: Frequent Bowel Movements 3 to 4 Days After 5-FU Leucouvorin Disconnect

Hey there Paula, 5FU can do terrible things to the bowels. The worst part of it for me was terrible constipation, but other people I've spoken with get just the opposite. Has she had a recent colonoscopy? That's the only way to really see what's going on in there. A CT usually won't pick up anything...

Hey Kbee816, I second what mariane recommended - call back a second time, or a third if needed. Regardless of what some think of Dr. Kemeny, she is actually a very kind, caring person (she's just all business when it comes to treating cancer which I love). Some people say they've never seen her smil...

Re: Coordination between oncologists - how to proceed?

Hey zephyr, This setup happens all the time. I did the same thing when my MSK oncologist wanted me to get 3 chemo treatments prior to liver surgery. Dr. Kemeny encouraged it, there was no pushback whatsoever. And you won't have to do any convincing to get the local oncologist to do the treatments - ...

Re: Possible to survive this?

Hey Momserati,

Where is your husband being treated? If not at one of the top rated cancer centers, please seek treatment there. MSK in NYC is my facility of choice...probably because they saved my life a couple times.

God bless.

Re: New - Daughter to Father with Stage 3B Colon Cancer

Hey salouma, Sorry you have to be here at such a young age worrying about your dad. You say the scans picked up a nodule in your dad's lung, but the oncologist has currently dismissed it and has staged him as 3B. If I were in your dad's shoes, I would want to know for sure whether that nodule is can...

Re: Can different CTs pick up different things?

Hey Punky, When I was first diagnosed and given a 2 year expiration date by a local facility they told me my liver was "peppered" with tumors. At my first meeting with Dr. D'Angelica at MSK, he told me that was nonsense. He could identify 3 tumors and said they're could be a 4th, because h...

Re: Possibly still NED...our story to date

This thread has gotten completely out of control. Dr. Kemeny is an expert (probably the best in the country) for colon cancer that has metastasized to the liver. She's spent her entire life working to improve survival for stage IV patients. She's respected by her colleagues, her students and her pat...

Re: Affects of antibotics on blood work during survellance

Hey Beckster, I can't speak specifically to Clindamycin, but I was on massive amounts of antibiotics for an entire year as a result of a bacterial infection that started in my lung and spread to my brain. I did 2,000mg of Ceftriaxone by IV twice a day for 3 months, then switched over to five 960mg B...

Re: High Dose Vitamin C Questions

This is my first post to Colon Talk. My wife was diagnosed, just before Christmas 2018, with stage IV colon cancer on her left side. My wife has a couple mets in her liver. We reside in Utah and have started chemo (folfox) but have already reached out to Dr. Kemeny in NYC. We also understand that D...

Re: Recovery time for HAI pump placement and/or liver resection?

Hey gina, My first surgery was a robotic colon resection at a local hospital. Second surgery was a wide open liver resection and HAI pump placement at MSK in NYC. Both were on Friday and I was out the following Wednesday. Main reason my stay was so long was because pain meds constipate me something ...

Re: Liver mets: ablation vs. surgery, pros? cons?

Hey hopie, Unfortunately with cancer, there are no guarantees. Some people have surgery and never have a recurrence...some do. Some people have ablations and never have a recurrence...some do. I've never been a patient person, but I've had to learn patience since being diagnosed with cancer. We all ...

Re: Pump people recurrence question

I spoke with my aunt who has been a nurse for 47 years this morning about our situation. When I told her that MSK has implanted this pump/adaptation implanted in about 60 patients so far and the trial started this past summer, she was extremely negative about going through with it. She kept saying ...

Not sure that's correct. Dr. K won't allow other facilities to fill the pump with chemo, but she usually has no problem at all letting others service it with saline.

Re: Stage 3/4 Colon Cancer

Hey rahlac, Hopefully, I can answer your questions without adding confusion: Chemo is standard for anything beyond stage 2. Once the cancer has spread and there are visible tumors, there's most certainly cancer cells floating around that have not yet developed into tumors. I was scheduled to do 12 r...
