Hi All Just wanted to post an update. Have ULAR about 5 years ago. Was terribly disappointed with the surgery so opted not to follow up with docs so haven’t seen once since. I’ve tried experimenting with different foods and different schedules but to no avail. Two weeks ago I had some friends come i...
MSK is leading a large study on this. Others on this board may chime in. I had the surgery and have found it quite life altering to be honest. Thanks for your input, can you elaborate with the surgery ? Do you mean the LAR has impacted you quite negatively or you are coping ok? Good luck I also had...

One thing to consider is a bidet. It cleans using water and even that temp can be controlled. I found it helpful because the constant wiping was a literal pain in the ass
I have been/am being treated by msk. We did 5 weeks crt (radiation/capecetabine/m3814) and I just completed my 8th round of folfox. I took 5 weeks In between CRT and chemotherapy. All actions were done with giving me the best chance to achieve a pcr or ccr and avoid a colostomy. I believe this is t...
Is anyone aware of any data on the risks where pathology is inconclusive or shows very limited remaining malignancy (e.g. a few cells, but not true remaining tumor)? I know some patients don’t get surgery due to infirmities and/or choice, but I can find nothing on this. I suspect it’s because the d...
At MSK, the doctor there suggested to do the chemotherapy before surgery because they have observed complete clinical response in patients that have residual tumors post radiation. You are going to have to do the chemo anyway. I’d much happier I did it pre surgery when I functioned normally. Doctor...
My mistake. I just read your profile. You did it the way they would have done it ideally. My feeling is to get a second from Dr Aguilar-Garcia. He’s a great guy to speak to about your situation and he is an excellent second opinion option. If you can avoid surgery, he’s the guy who is most in favor ...

Sorry to hear about your situation. Sometimes the drugs they give during chemo cause constipation. I suspect you I know the answer, but have you tried any of the natural means to alleviate constipation....chia seeds, cruciferous vegetable (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, etc), oatmeal, berries, prune...
Good to know. I recently went to my GI doc after a couple of years of clustering and he mentioned that I might be somewhat constipated. After doing an X-ray he confirmed it. I started to drink Smooth Move tea every evening and it moved things along much faster. He mentioned that the force to evacuat...
Have the docs mentioned watch and wait? Sometimes chemoradiation followed by chemo or vice versus results in a complete response at which point surgery is delayed.
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. You get one shot to destroy this thing. Go to the best. Go to MSK. They do the cutting edge research and they are worth the drive. They are leading the research on watch and wait so you may be able to avoid the surgery.
Also, I don’t know your treatment teams philosophy, but are they, and more importantly you, open to “watch and wait?” Of course, this depends on whether you have had a complete response to treatment or not. Many of the top centers are incorporating this treatment plan based on the severity of the su...
