Re: Need advice: Margins were not clear

In March of 2019 I had a partial cystectomy for rectal cancer involvement in the bladder. One of the margins came back positive but the surgeon insisted he got it all. 2 years later it was back with a spot in the peritoneum also. At Memorial Sloan Kettering they initially didn't even want to operate...

Re: Doctor recommendations at Memorial Sloan-Kettering?

That's funny Vana, my partner was wondering if she was pregnant at our November appointment! She really did help advocate for a complicated but ultimately successful surgery for me at a tumor board.

Doctor recommendations at Memorial Sloan-Kettering?

I have just been informed that my oncologist Dr Louise Connell is on maternity leave and I'll need to set up a follow-up with a new oncologist. Any recommendations? I've been very happy with MSK - looking for someone who will never give up and is willing to think outside the box for an other wise he...

Re: 12 years Stage IV

Just curious you mentioned that you had an abdominal mass removed a few weeks ago, was it on the peritoneum?

Re: My Story 5 years with Stage 4 Rectal cancer (lung mets, local recurrence)

Hi JLD13, Despite being told I was inoperable twice and some intense surgeries and treatment regimens these actually have been overall good years, five of them. I was mentally preparing myself for a cystectomy but to my surprise I think because of the location the urologist said he could do a partia...

Re: My Story 5 years with Stage 4 Rectal cancer (lung mets, local recurrence)

Thanks guys. I prepare for the worst but am cautiously optimistic, there may be a high risk of recurrence but in over 2 1/2 years only 2 spots have popped up

Re: Thoughts on treatment approach - stage IV recurrent

I had to push for surgery at MSK recently but glad I did. 3 months of Folfox could shrink the liver thing and potentially make the surgery lower risk
Wishing you the best

My Story 5 years with Stage 4 Rectal cancer (lung mets, local recurrence)

Five years ago today December 6, 2016 I was diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer at the age of 46. I had previously been very healthy with hardly a headache my entire life. I had a big lower gastrointestinal bleed and collapsed on the floor the ambulance came and the sheriff had to break down the...

Re: Suggestions for treatment facility for liver and lung mets

I am a physician with colorectal cancer in remission. I would recommend Dr. Kemeny or another MSK colorectal cancer specialist for liver mets and Dr. Drewes in Coswig Germany for laser metastectomy if you have more than three or four lung metastases. I did not have liver metastases but I had seven s...

Re: Lung recurrence update- good news

Thanks kiwiinoz,
I did have bilateral lung surgery in Germany and they removed most of my left lower lobe Oct/Nov 2018. I've done some steep and moderately difficult hikes recently which were fine as long as I paced myself.
Best,
Julius
