Re: New member / ileo problem

Yes you can still have movements with a loop ileo. My husband had more with his ileo then with his colostomy. Don’t know why. But it is normal.

Re: Advice - new ileostomy reversal

My husbands ileo reversal was Oct 25. He had a colostomy that was reversed in March and given the temp ileo. His has gone pretty smoothly. I honestly believe it is because he had to have his colon stretched before the ileo reversal. His colostomy reconnect was only a 1mm opening. He was going in eve...

Re: Help with bowels

Thought I’d bring this back up because it has good information in here. Hoping for some suggestions for my hubby. He had his last stigmoid whatever to check his connection. Good news did shrink and stretched it up to 20 mm. Now he’s been approved to eat whatever he wants. He was on low fiber. Hubby’...

Re: Just need to get it out

Thank you everyone. He was wearing his seat belt. Thank goodness he does every time he gets in a vehicle.

He never really got sore. He never had to go in. No concussion. He got really lucky.

Just need to get it out

I’ve talked to my family and I’m pretty sure I’m just coming off my adrenaline rush. But I’m just sitting here crying so thankful my husband is ok. But I don’t want to bother my family this late at night. His ileo takedown was Oct 25. His hip replacement was June 27. My husband hit a patch of ice to...

Re: Question For All Those Who Have Had Illeostomy Reversal Surgery

My husband did. If you read my signature you can see how many times he had to go in. He never had pain. They had to make him sleepy. He had a colostomy take down first and given an illeostomy because they were worried he’d scar and have issues with the connection. It’s a good thing they did because ...

Re: Surgery Monday 7th 2019 Salvage Resection Surgery

My husband didn’t have a choice. He was told to keep his output like a paste. Too runny can cause dehydration and too formed can cause a blockage. So if he started to pancake we would add an extra stool softener for a day or 2 then go back to what usually kept him consistent.

Re: Surgery Monday 7th 2019 Salvage Resection Surgery

With my husband’s colostomy he had to take stool softener. He took 2 in the morning and 3 at night. His diet would make the output change sometimes. The best advice we got was from a pharmacist at Sam’s club. He said it takes 36 hours for any stool softener adjustments to be noticed. He said never a...

Finally some good news

Husband had his colostomy take down in March. The surgeon decided with all the scar tissue in there to give him a temp illeo and see how the connection went. Glad he went that way. We found out at the first procedure June 20 that the connection opening was only 1mm a normal colon is 30 mm. So we tho...

Re: It’s today (with update) Take down scheduled

Thought I’d post an update. When he went in June 20 we found out his opening was only 1 mm. So very tiny. They opened it up to about 11 mm. We were told the average diameter of the colon is 30mm. So the gastroenterologist thought we might have to go to a specialist. He even talked to one about his c...

Re: ULAR + ileo tips welcome!

My husband had a colostomy in May 2018. End of March 2019 went in for take down. He now has a temp illeostomy (which is a good thing because his colostomy take down connection is too small and they are having to enlarge it to do the ileo take down) Anyway I have found the illeostomy has been more di...

Re: Quick intro -- diagnosed Friday

If you read my signature you can see about my husband. He went in for his year scan and they found a nodule on his lung. His scans had not shown his lung in the past. He has to go back at 4 months to scan again to make sure the nodule didn’t grow and may be a met. They said it could’ve been there be...

Re: It’s today (with update) Take down scheduled

Thought I’d post an update. Roger had a barium test done to test for leaking. The barium didn’t go up far enough. So we got to visit the surgeon earlier this week. He said he could “see” a pin hole opening so he was sending us back for another barium type test. He had us go with his cell number so h...

Journey started 1 year ago today

I can’t believe it’s been a year. It actually feels like it’s been longer. This past Thursday he had his first scan since chemo. This coming Friday he has a barium test to make sure they can finish his resection so we can get rid of his illeostomy. It has been harder to care for then his colostomy. ...

Re: Reversal Log: Experience,Problems, Q & A's

We were also confused at first. But he’s had his colostomy since May 2018. He had to originally get the colostomy because of an infection from diverticulitis, which is how we found the cancer. When the surgeon went in to reattach there were soooo many adhesions he was in surgery for almost 8 hours. ...
