Re: Non cancer diagnosis for hemicolectomy

I really appreciate the responses to my post. This is an extremely hard decision for me. If I was told I have cancer - there would be no doubt or question in my mind -- I would have the surgery asap. Being told it is "pre-cancerous" (low dysplasia actually), slow growing and could take 10...

What did you decide to do? I am in your same situation right down to IBS.

Re: Recovery: hemicolectomy vs ESD

Hi All thanks for this forum! I have 28 mm sessile polyp in ascending colon near the appendix so not amenable to standard endoscopic resecton; no family history of colon cancer. I've gotten recommendations to do 1) partial colectomy; 2) right hemicolectomy; 3) endoscopic submucosal dissection. Very...

Re: Questionable submucosal cecal mass

Beckster, where in NJ are you? Who did your surgery? Southern NJ.....Dr Stephen McClane at Cooper University, head of colon rectal surgery and co director of MD Anderson, performed my surgery. He is a rock star! Had my surgery at 8:00am on a Friday and was discharged by 6:00am on Sunday. Went home ...

Re: Questionable submucosal cecal mass

Just search this forum for "right hemicolectomy". Some people are back to almost normal in a few weeks. Other people have severe issues after 10 years. Right hemicolectomy removes ileo-cecal valve, that is an important part of your digestive system. Is colonoscopic removal of your mass an...

Did you have a Right Hemi (ascending colon) or just cecum removed

Pizza

How long before a right hemicolectomy can your system tolerate pizza? Worried I'll never eat pizza again.

Re: Questionable submucosal cecal mass

Had a CT scan which was inconclusive. Only option being offered to me by 2 surgeons is right hemi. Asked about frozen section. Apparently not 100% accurate in GI masses.

Questionable submucosal cecal mass

I seem to be one of the rare people that has a submucosal cecal mass that is questionable. Can’t tell if it’s benign or malignant. My GI says it has to come out. Two different colon rectal surgeons are recommending a right hemicolectomy just in case it’s malignant. I don’t want to lose part of my co...

Endoscopic ultrasound

Anyone have an Endoscopic ultrasound (ultrasound probe attached to colonoscopy) with Fine needle biopsy? My cecal mass is submucosal and “probably” benign. Hoping this ultrasound might help me avoid a right hemicolectomy.

Help! I’m scared!

I need some words of encouragement. I had a first screening colonoscopy at 51. Doc found a small submucosal cecal mass by my appendix. Apparently he couldn’t really biopsy it since it’s in the intestinal wall. CT scan inconclusive. I saw a surgeon who said I needed a right hemicolectomy. I pray the ...

I am also in NJ facing a right hemicolectomy. What part of NJ do you live in? Who performed your surgery?

Cecal mass

I had a colonoscopy that found a submucosal mass in my cecum. CT scan confirmed a mass but no way to tell if it’s benign or malignant. GI doc who did colonoscopy suggested a cecectomy. Colon rectal surgeon feels a right hemicolectomy what needs to be donesince there’s no way to know if it’s malignan...
