Re: Colonoscopy Scheduled but nervous and looking for advice/talking off the ledge

Everyone’s symptoms are different, unfortunately—the big thing is that they’re affecting your quality of life, so it’s only natural to get it checked. Butt seriously, good on you for getting checked (and to your doctor for taking it seriously). Colonoscopies can be really helpful in figuring out wha...

Re: CT Scan contrast injection and kidneys, advice, please

I have Polycystic Kidney Disease, so my nephrologist has me drink lots of fluids beforehand, and does bloodwork about a week after a scan. My kidney function is normal right now, and I didn’t have to do chemo, so my overall kidney load hasn’t been bad. I do have to get IV contrast for my CT scans. T...

Re: newly diagnosed stage 2a @ 38

Sorry for not updating! My scans came back clear, and my Bloodwork looks good as well. I did two iron infusions, which helped a bit with my anemia, but my Oncologist and I think it’s more of a feature than a bug in my case. I also did a round of fertility preservation, which also went well. I really...

Re: First colonoscopy so what do I ask and expect

Definitely don’t cancel—your kids will have more basketball tournaments. They’ve only got one mom. You owe it to them to be proactive about your health, not only to be there for many years to come, but also as an example to them that being healthy is a priority. You should ask about the breastfeedin...

Re: Genetic link

Hi again, Yet another question (sorry). Is it still possible to get colon cancer even if No one else in your family has ever had it? Thanks J x Just want to add—you can use your abnormal colonoscopy as an excuse to push your family members to get scoped as well. We don’t know all genetic or environ...

Re: Hello please help.

First off I am so happy for your staging results—seriously, that’s GREAT news! I had the “what do you mean old blood?” Freakout too—it turned out to be normal (or at least, not a bad thing) as they said, but it was terrifying. My tumor was higher up, so I didn’t leak as much as have to scramble to t...

Re: Young person struggling to schedule a colonoscopy

Ok, I’m a bit older, but had some similar symptoms (including the ‘slight’ anemia) What worked for me was that I went to an urgent care clinic and directly asked for a referral to a GI doctor. Sometimes your GP will try to see the best case scenario—urgent care doctors tend to see just the symptoms....

Re: Stage II but puzzle with the chemo.. : (

My oncologist used some of the same numbers for me, but I was negative for LVI (T3N0M0, G1-well-differentiated) tumor, sigmoid colon). He said that it was an even choice, but I have serious underlying kidney issues, so the reduction in recurrence risk wasn’t worth the risk of renal failure. Side eff...

Re: Chronic Pain Management issue regarding nausea

I’m super sensitive to opiates, so any amount makes me nauseous. I found two things work well for me 1) pressure wrist bands, usually called motion sickness bands like Seabands or Psibands. It’s basically acupressure that helps trick your brain out of nausea. It helps me with both motion sickness an...

Re: Supplements post treatment

Thanks for this topic! I’m trying to figure out which suppmemts to add as well—I’ve heard Curcumin & Vitamin D, as well as that tree nuts are good starting points, but there are so many varieties of each that I can’t figure out how to select which type to take.

Re: New and scared...

I’m also 38, and very small and skinny, and had no issues with my colonoscopy (well, other than what they found  ). I asked about the risks, since I had known hemorrhoids and thought that’d make things riskier, buty my GI said it was extremely low risk. The only big tip she had was to be nice ...
