juliej?

Am hoping someone has heard from longtime member juliej in the past 12 months? She used to be a frequent poster here. And IMO, an incredible resource of information and inspiration. Just hoping she's doing OK. And also hoping she knows how much her contributions here were valued. Wishing everyone th...

Re: Colostomy and Gas Pains

This helps to solidify my position to end my life via an exit bag rather than have a surgery that leaves me with a colostomy. Yes. So rather than have a surgery that will leave you with a colostomy, you are currently incontinent. And to evacuate completely, you need to either lie in a bathtub or on...

Re: Percentage Of Colon/Rectal Cancer That Metastasis To The Liver?

https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/types/liver-metastases “Most liver metastases start as cancer in the colon or rectum. Up to 70 percent of people with colorectal cancer eventually develop liver metastases. This happens in part because the blood supply from the intestines is connected directly to t...

Re: Does anyone have experience Jane McLelland and starving cancer?

Has anyone tried to actually use some of the methods to starve cancer along with their treatment? Just was reading into it and was curious to hear what others may have done! There is a very active group on Facebook devoted to HOW TO STARVE CANCER. I believe in Jane's theory of blocking pathways to ...

Re: Please Help With Weight Loss/Endless Painful Constipation

Going into this, a permanent colostomy is a terrifying idea, and the last thing anyone wants. It's an immediate emotional, visceral response. But usually, with education, positions will shift. Because it's not just a choice between LARS and a bag. It can be the choice between a bag or Stage IV. Or a...

Re: So the news was not good....

If you're husband was on maintenance chemo, then this is what occurs: The patient is on it until there's growth/progression. It's totally expected. The idea is to stretch things out as long as possible. It's known as the "chemo-for-life" plan. But it also means that once the chemo stops wo...

Re: Please Help With Weight Loss/Endless Painful Constipation

I am so sorry you're going through this. But I'll also say that there's no way a bag is worse than this. I know you're anti-bag to the point where you'd rather commit suicide, but I can assure you your QOL will be vastly improved by a bag. Hope you will reconsider.

Re: A fractured second opinion

Where did you wife get her first surgery? Prophylactic oophorectomy is recommended by aggressive surgeons, as it's a common site of metastasis. So if it was not recommended by that surgeon, I would find another one going forward. My wife was also treated at MSK, and can share intel if you like. Feel...

Re: My CRC with liver mets journey

Sent an email to MSK with about four questions and they answered only one of them - confirming when to schedule my scan. Getting frustrated. I don't want my local doctor to be making calls about my treatment by default because I can't get Dr K to address whether I should reinstate irinotecan my nex...

. I’m unwilling to go through a life of terrible suffering with a bag. Okay, I have to ask, what are you talking about??? Please enlighten us and me?? What is the "terrible suffering" you are referring to with a colostomy bag?? Have to ask, how old are you? Lee As far as I can tell, it's ...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

I'm certainly not opposed to the idea of alternative treatments. Whatever has a chance of working, is worth trying. The problem is, there's nothing alternative that's shown ANY significant efficacy at all for late stage rectal cancer. Joe Tippens Protocol, Chris Beat Cancer, Gerson Therapy, Care Onc...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

I will opt for any surgery that doesn’t leave me with an ostomy. You need to look up LARS (low anterior resection syndrome). You are not alone, there are others who also believe a colostomy is the worst possible outcome, worse than death. I can tell you from studying countless patients who decided ...

Re: New here, diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer and have a few questions

I thought about it for a long time, and decided I would end my life at a time of my choosing before I would accept a surgery thst would leave me with a bag for the rest of my days. This is totally your decision, of course. But for anyone else reading, they should understand that an active rectal tu...

Re: Suggestions for treatment facility for liver and lung mets

Please consider a consult with Dr. Yuman Fong at City of Hope. I've written a lot about him before, you can do a keyword search. Suffice it to say, his bona fides for liver surgery are unmatched. I've seen patients at MSK get liver resection even in the setting of multiple lung mets. But I feel a li...

Re: A Toast to 2020!

Juliej, I personally feel my family owes so much to you, for sharing your story, and providing a road map for treatment. And most of all, for providing hope. When I realized HAI gave us our best shot, I devoured all the patient stories on the various message boards. Yours was my favorite. I searched...
