Re: Scared Son, dad maybe has IIIC? Can anyone help me understand this pathology?

I am very sorry for what you are going through. It is a shock to get the diagnosis but you are doing well by gathering all the info you can. My mom was diagnosed stage 3C with a mass in her cecum which grew to her abdominal wall in March last year. Chemo failed in the first round as she was not able...

Re: Immunotherapy Questions

My mom is MSI high. Her first round of chemo put her in the hospital for 15 days. So onc did not continue. After four months she was having pain and CT scan showed new 3 cm tumor on her colon at surgery site. She went on Keytruda and after three weeks her pain was gone. At three months onc did anoth...

Re: Adjuvant immunotherapy

My mom was stage 4 with Mets to her peri. She is MSI high but negative for Lynch. Chemo failed on first cycle. She almost died from it so onc discontinued. We crossed our fingers that it wouldn’t come back after surgery removing original tumor. But then it did. Onc put her on Keytruda in October. Th...

Re: Switching back to Pembro

This is such great news for you! I am so happy to read this. It’s been along time since I’ve been on this site but I read occasionally. As with everyone with this diagnosis or a family member who has colon cancer, it’s been a very tough year. My mom did not respond well to chemo, in fact it almost k...

Re: Losing the will to live

Hello everyone. Wanted to provide an update. My mom is still with us. The chemo damn near killed her. Seriously. She was hospitalized twice in the month following her one and only Xelox treatment. Her onc took chemo off the table, which didn’t matter because she wasn’t going to do any more, regardle...

Re: Losing the will to live

Thank you everyone for all your words of comfort and advice. I arrived late last night and am going to see Mom this morning. She does not know I’m here yet. My brother said she has NOT lost the will to live. She’s just very sick and scared. Will be meeting with doctor and getting counseling services...

Re: Losing the will to live

Just spoke with my aunt. My mom told her last night that she is dying. My aunt asked her why she thinks that and my mom said she feels it. Changed my flight and I’m flying out tonight. I am sick, scared, sad beyond measure. My mom is the sweetest, kindest woman on the planet.

Re: Losing the will to live

She is back in the hospital. She woke my dad up last night and told him she didn’t think she would make it through the night. She is so weak. I hope it’s a good sign that she woke him up and wanted to go to the hospital. Maybe she doesn’t want to die. I am flying back out tomorrow.

Losing the will to live

My mom was diagnosed in March and had surgery April 7. She’s stage IIIC. She started her first 3-week round of Xelox regime May 16. She stopped eating and was barely drinking anything after I left to go home on June 1. I live on the opposite coast but flew out there and stayed for 2 1/2 months to be...

Re: Taste Change Advice

Staying hydrated is most important. My mom had severe side effects after her first round and ended up in the hospital for eight days. She hasn’t eaten in two weeks and she won’t barely drink anything. She’s complaining about the taste. She had to go back to the hospital yesterday to get an IV of hyd...

Re: Stage 2- no follow up care???

So I'm in the same place with my mom. Just diagnosed with IIA. She was advised by oncologist that no chemo was needed. I want to trust this but am a bit scared as well. We live near a major cancer center (they did not do the surgery) so I might have them take a 2nd look. That is good advice. I just...

Re: Adverse reaction to capecitabine?

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and suggestions. It has been a roller coaster this week. One day my mom feels better and the next day she's just ready to give up on it all. It's day 8 and she's still in the hospital. Her abdominal pain has subsided but she's had diarrhea for the past...

Thank you for this info. I’m trying not to panic having read about the dpd. I am sending a note to her onc right now.

Adverse reaction to capecitabine?

My mom finished her first round of Xelox regime last Wednesday. On the last three or so days of the pills she really had a hard time eating or drinking anything. Then on Sunday she was having abdominal pains that were severe enough for the on-call oncologist to tell her to go to urgent care. Urgent ...

Re: Worried Daughter

Sounds like your Mom is in very good hands, between you and her surgeon. Will be praying for you both.
