Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Oh my, I haven't been on here in at least a year but just received a rare email notification (not sure why I don't get them more often) that you posted and what a time to pop in and see this first thing. CONGRATULATIONS, PRS! This is truly AMAZING to read! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. ...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Welcome, 2024. I have not been on here for quite some time and I don't get notifications to remid me (until today, when O Stoma Mia's post generated one!). I have to review my signature but I've been on W&W since Feb 2019. Hard to believe it's 2024. I have been down to a flex sig 2x a year and M...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hello, Roadrunner. I don't know the current research on how long to wait but I do recall seeing the curve I think you are referring to back when I was making my decision. So, I can only share my experience. My local surgeon did an MRI @6-8 weeks after the end of radiation (did chemo before radiation...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Thank you, SKB. I just spoke to my oncologist last week and he said the same. [/quote] HI lake swim, Based on statistics, the metastasis tends to occur to lungs if the initial cancer was in rectum. It tends to be in the liver if the initial cancer was in colon above the rectum. It has to do with how...

Re: Bone Density / Females

HI - and thanks for commenting. Can you tell me about the meds. Any side effects? Heartburn? How long (years) will they have you on before your "holiday"? Thanks, lakeswim Yes. Followup scans indicated sacral fractures - subsequent bone scans revealed full blown osteoporosis. PCP believes ...

Re: Cycling seats post radiation treatment

Thanks CRGuy for the other links and Dave (both!) for the pep talk. What I found last fall when I rode is that my bottom area (rectal area) felt "blown up" and the more often I rode, the more blown up it felt. As someone who has spent time on bikes, I know the sit bones take time to get us...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

HI RDUJay. I am just catching up on posts in this thread and saw yours quoted later on and wanted to comment. First, let me say how much I admire your commitment to advocating for yourself. When I was first diagnosed, I saw my local team and then traveled for a second opinion at Cleveland Clinic. My...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Update: I had my CT here on Tuesday and it remains unchanged. So, good news! My local Onc and I discussed strategy for if/when my flex sig/MR (currently scheduled for May in NYC @MSK) is postponed. He said we could do it here - even knowing it would be ideal to do it with same provider @MSK. Or, I c...

Re: Ultra low anterior resection and cycling!

Hi Jane. It's been many years so not sure you are still on here, but wondering if you ever found a solution. I too experience this tailbone issue and general rectal discomfort "fullness" after cycling and I'm looking for answers. Padded shorts don't seem to cut it for me. I wonder if it's ...

Re: Cycling seats post radiation treatment

Thanks for these links. (My search wasn't as productive as yours.) I was an avid cyclist so padded shorts are standard for me and they didn't help at all last fall. I look forward to seat suggestions in these threads! Thanks again, CRGuy!

Cycling seats post radiation treatment

Hello. Anyone who went through radiation have any success with cycling seats? Between my irradiated pelvis and my osteoporosis from treatment, I haven't been able to get on a bike comfortably. I could get past the osteoporosis and just find a smooth surface to cycle on (no more mt biking, I guess), ...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi PRS - Thanks for your feedback! - Lakeswim Hi lakeswim, glad to hear you are doing well. All my blood counts are at, or slightly below the low end of the normal range. They stabilized at those levels a little over a year after my radiation treatment, and have remained like that ever since (4 more ...

Bone Density / Females

Hello, Ladies. Someone here (maybe weisssoccermom) mentioned a while back that females should get a baseline bone density scan after radiation treatment. I forget her exact words (and can't find them) but she said many women suffer with hip fractures years after pelvic radiation treatment. I took th...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

roadrunner - thank you for all that information! i forgot how everyone on this forum is so darn smart. (i considered myself smart at one time but can no longer digest and understand this complex stuff - since chemo.) yes, my numbers have moved around a lot but have stayed just lower than "norma...
