Re: Mom is now NED but it was a tough fight to get there!

She got her biliary drain out and was able to resume chemo on Monday! Her CEA with MSK is 3.1 (its always been a little higher then her local oncs, which is probably down to around 1 now if they was to test it today)!

Mom is now NED but it was a tough fight to get there!

I have posted a few times on my moms fight so far. On December 5th she had her second liver resection to clear the remaining tumors from her right lobe. Chemo had shrunk or eliminated almost all that had been visible. When she started so had so many that Dr. Kingham and given up at 11 before her fir...

Re: Mom's surgery 5/23 (HAI pump)

Her CEA on 6/20 when she started receiving HAI therapy was 36 and that was drop from her pre surgery CEA of 55 (4/25). Today 7/3 her CEA is down to 4.5 which is just 13 days post first treatment with HAI! She just started systemic again today as well at a lower dose then what she was getting presurg...

Mom's surgery 5/23 (HAI pump)

She had surgery on 5/23 And her primary was removed with 10 inches of colon (clean margins). They also removed 2 liver mets from her left liver lobe (clean margins). She wasn't suppose to have a colostomy but developed a infection so on 5/30 a second surgery was done and she will have a colostomy un...

Re: Mother stage IV, terrified

I figured I would post an update after getting back from NYC with my mom. She had a visit with Dr. Paty and Dr. Kingham to discuss a game plan. They both believe that my moms surgery will be relatively straight forward for them and they both believe she is a good candidate for HAI. The plan from Dr....

Re: To all HEPATIC pump users - Dr. Kemeny

I am so scared now. My mom is scheduled to meet with two surgeons at MSK this weekend to discuss getting the pump. This is her BEST chance and now it may not even be available to her. I just don't even know what to think.

Re: Systematic chemotherapy + HAI?

Plain and simple, HAI at Sloan Kettering saved my life. It's not always a possibility with lung mets, but sometimes it is. More than half my liver was cancerous 8 years ago, yet I now have no evidence of it in my body. And frankly, it has always bothered me - and continues to bother me - that so fe...

Re: Mother stage IV, terrified

I am very happy that you feel well after meeting Dr. Kemeny. She always has plan and fights for her patients. I also came back uplifted from the first consultation with her. She told me that we would get this cancer. And indeed she got it :) I am cheering your mom and you! We thank you so much! Its...

Re: Mother stage IV, terrified

Just wanted to post an update after visiting Dr. Kemeny at MSK. It was very good news for sure! Although we are now going to stop the oxilaplatin due to side effect issues, that Dr. Kemeny said should have been discontinued atleast a treatment or two ago. Dr. Kemeny thinks that my mom is probably re...

Re: Mother stage IV, terrified

I wish you the good consultation with Dr. Kemeny and a plan to get these tumors out. Good luck! Thank you! We are hoping for a similar outcome as you! However my moms recent blood work showed a jump in CEA from 12.4 up to 22.2 so she is very worried. However I am hoping that this is just because sh...

Re: MD Anderson

My mom sought a second opinion at MD Anderson because her local onc told her that she could only provide 2-5 years if treatment works, meaning chemo and then avastin maintenance. This was regardless of how she responded to treatment, surgery won't be an option. Dr. Raghav at MD Anderson didn't fully...

Re: Mother stage IV, terrified

I can echo Juliej. I was diagnosed in June 2015. My situation was very similar to your mom's. I had 10+ tumors in my liver. The largest was 7.5cm almost completely overtaking the left lobe of my liver, many smaller tumors, some of the around 4cm, badly located. I had HAI pump treatment by Dr. Kemen...

Re: Mother stage IV, terrified

Thank you for the responses! I have been looking at the HAI pump for awhile so its great to see people recommend it and see those that have obtained results. We are now looking more into the TIL trial if things go that way and she doesn't or is no longer responding to treatment. I do have an update ...

Mother stage IV, terrified

I am not even sure what I can say. My mom was DX'ed in October with Stage IV and is inoperable. There are 11 mets (7cm largest in left lobe, 4cm largest in right and the rest are 2cm or smaller) to the liver and a 7cm applecore shaped lesion in her colon. Her local oncologist told her that she can o...
