Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I sincerely hope that the cold sensitivity isn’t bad for you. It’s bad for me - it’s been two weeks since chemo and I still have it. But for others it seems to last only a few days. This round has been timed with a sustained freeze (I am also in the Northeast.) Really annoying, but at least I don’t ...

Congrats on the successful port placement! Definitely set up reminders, but also know that the mail order pharmacy will likely robocall you when it’s time to order new pills. That’s what they do with me anyway. I use Briova Rx.

Re: Feeling nervous n very high anxiety

Not all side effects impact everyone equally. My cold sensitivity lasts two weeks, but I haven’t had any diarrhea or constipation.

Re: CT Scan Just came in Liver Met (one)

With the cold sensitivity of Oxaliplatin it can be hard to drink enough because you will only be able to tolerate room temperature or warm drinks and so it can be harder than you think to drink say eight cups of room temp water a day, unless you like your water that temp (I never could get used to ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I think I used the wrong term when I said “blowout.” The bag was still intact; rather, the stool had gotten past the ring and was leaking out the bottom. I had been feeling lots of stinging and was pretty horrified when I saw that. When I removed the bag I could see that stool had gotten past every ...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I had my first bag blowout tonight. Thankfully I was near home. I switched to the Eakin ring yesterday to try it out and clearly it did not hold up. I’m back to the Coloplast Brava ring and sticking with it. My poor skin - I had to take a shower and do some serious skincare before putting the new ba...

interesting case study - my sister and me

My sister pointed out today that we are an interesting case study. I am an identical triplet (three sisters) and have lived with one of my sisters for the last decade. We haven't done everything together, but we've essentially eaten the same diet and been on a similar exercise regime during all that...

Re: Some things that have helped me - chemo side effects

I have a side effect that lasts for about 4 days. Drinking anything cold makes me feel like I'm swallowing glass. I drink things at room temp now. If it isn't quite there, holding the liquid in my mouth a bit warms it up enough to swallow without the glass sensation. Oh yes, I have this side effect...

Re: 22 years old and scared to death

Yes, that's true about the chronic bleeding. I had regular blood in the stool, got treated for internal hemorrhoids, was told I didn't need a colonoscopy, the bleeding continued, and finally I pushed for one nine months after the bleeding started. I also had irregular and frequent bowel movements. Y...

Some things that have helped me - chemo side effects

I wanted to share a few things that I've done in this third round to help manage side effects from Oxaliplatin. I have a pretty strong reaction to it so I thought this might be helpful to those who are similar to me. 1. Cold sensitivity: For this round of treatment, I brought with me a nice insulate...

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

Thanks. It seems like it was just minor diarrhea and I'm not dehyrdrated. Been drinking a ton of water and some pedialyte and urinating normally.

Re: How much margin for stoma with cut-to fit?

I just requested a free sample of the Eakin Ring and the moldable wafers from Convatec's website. I have a feeling this may be the solution to my problems.

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

I think I've started having some diarrhea -- waves of pain in the intestine in the mornings usually followed by some liquid output. I assume that it's diarrhea? So hard to tell with the ileostomy. I'm going to mention it to my onc tomorrow. It's been pretty regular in the mornings in the last week b...

Re: How much margin for stoma with cut-to fit?

Karen, What product number is the moldable wafer from Hollister? I have tried so many different pouching systems with Hollister and Coloplast, and I continue to have irritated skin around the stoma. I wrap the Brava ring around the stoma and I cut the wafer pretty close but not too close, like you s...
