That was a shock..

Hi guys, little update. My mom went through with the liver ablation, but now found out she has a large pleural effusion and ascites during her hospitalization post op. They drained it and it came back positive for cancer. Just had a pet scan to confirm peritoneal and lung wall mets. 3 weeks later sh...

Re: Need help!! Ablation or No ablation??

I appreciate/value any input regarding this “cancer journey”. Yes after hearing a 2nd and 3rd opinion say no and that she is palliative and inoperable, I think she pretty much gave up with NED. She refused to go out of state for a 4th opinion. Here and there she’ll ask me if it “will ever go away”. ...

Re: Need help!! Ablation or No ablation??

Thank you for your responses. I guess the oncologist main concern was “quality of life” vs benefit for doing the ablation. I’m trying to research the reoccurrence rates. He asked us what our main goal was. I told him “some time” anything really, a chemo break?? since we are left with what seems no o...

Need help!! Ablation or No ablation??

What are your opinions on a heat ablation for a 1cm liver met? the oncologist said the ablation will do nothing to prolong anything. He said even though the CT may show one met left there may be some not shown on the CT. The radiologist said he only saw one and said he can do an ablation. My mom had...

Re: Please help, any other options?

Correct, she wasn’t a candidate for surgery due to the Mets. The perineal mets were never shown on any of her scans only per the general surgery who put her emergency colostomy bag when the tumor was found, but he did not remove the tumor. I did take her to Moffitt cancer center when she was first d...

Please help, any other options?

I feel like my oncologist is giving up on my mom. She recently had to switch to folfox (4 cycles so far) after her one liver met showed progression after being on folfiri for forever. This folfox is really taking a toll on my mom, she’s only been on folfiri, for over 2 years straight so she’s a stro...

Re: Frustrated, need your opinion

Thank you for your replies Molly and Grouseman. I researched so much before seeing the doctors and suggested the diversion colitis and they did not want to prescribe any steroid or enema, just antibiotics for one week. Which didn’t help. We finally saw the oncologist again yesterday and they are ref...

Frustrated, need your opinion

Hello everyone! Just wondering if anyone has any advice. Just saw the surgeon and no help. My mom has rectal cancer with liver Mets and a colostomy (no colectomy). Her colostomy is working fine but the past 2 months she’s been having rectal discharge and pain where she is running to the bathroom eve...

Re: I need help understanding CEA

My mom gets her CEA checked every 2 weeks with her chemo sessions. The nurses and the doctor never mentions it, unless you ask. We have patient portal where the CEA and other lab work results the same day the lab work is drawn. So I never ask what the current CEA is, I just look online.

Best of luck

Side effects question

Good morning! I have a question. My mom gets Folfiri + avastin every 2 weeks and has gotten 8 treatments so far. Since starting Chemo she has little side effects with the typical disconnect days side effects of diarrhea and fatigue for 3 days, no nausea. But now she’s been having nausea/vomiting on ...

Re: Question about bowel obstruction

It’s confirmed by imaging such as a CT scan or abdominal X-ray. It’s a good sign also if passing gas, not vomiting, and stooling. That means you have GI motility or movement.
