Re: I need help understanding CEA

My mom gets her CEA checked every 2 weeks with her chemo sessions. The nurses and the doctor never mentions it, unless you ask. We have patient portal where the CEA and other lab work results the same day the lab work is drawn. So I never ask what the current CEA is, I just look online.

Best of luck

Side effects question

Good morning! I have a question. My mom gets Folfiri + avastin every 2 weeks and has gotten 8 treatments so far. Since starting Chemo she has little side effects with the typical disconnect days side effects of diarrhea and fatigue for 3 days, no nausea. But now she’s been having nausea/vomiting on ...

Re: Question about bowel obstruction

It’s confirmed by imaging such as a CT scan or abdominal X-ray. It’s a good sign also if passing gas, not vomiting, and stooling. That means you have GI motility or movement.

Re: Small bowel obstruction

From my understanding for bowel obstruction the first treatment for anyone is to keep them on bowel rest meaning nothing by mouth (no food or water) and they insert an NG tube to suck out any bile or fluid that is not moving through the GI tract, hence the vomiting. They leave the tube in to help th...

Rectal tumor question

Hello! My mother was told that her primary cancer originated from her rectal tumor. Her initial CT in the ER showed her liver Mets but we did not find out about her rectal tumor until her colonoscopy the next day. They actually could not even advance the scope due to the size of the rectal tumor and...

Re: 1st CT since diagnosis - question

Thank you SweetC80 and everyone else for your reply and well wishes! My mom got her CT results back today and the doctor said she's responding really well to the chemo and her liver mets shrunk significantly. Unfortunately the results doesn't upload on her patient portal until 4 days later and still...

Re: Mental status changes

Did they check his ammonia level or urine sample for a bladder infection? When your ammonia level is high you can get encephalopathy and confusion.

1st CT since diagnosis - question

Hello everyone! Today is my mother's first CT since her initial diagnosis in the ER. We are both so nervous! she has had 5 rounds of folriri + avastin and has been tolerating it okay. She did have to add a BP medicine due to the Avastin. Her starting CEA was 171 right before chemo, now it is 25.1. I...

Re: Bowel Perforation -Avastin

I’m sorry your mom is in this situation. She is in the right place though. She should already be on very strong antibiotics right now. They are maybe waiting for her to be “stable” or to make sure she doesn’t have a blood infection (blood cultures). That takes a couple days to result. I don’t think ...

Re: Exploring HIPEC Surgery and How to Choose A Surgeon

Hi Inorganic, New to this board and can’t message you for some reason. My moms story is very similar to your husbands and I don’t know where to turn to for advise. The oncologist is calling it “palliative chemo” but I can’t accept that. We just went along with the local hospital oncologist and was w...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Hi, This is my first post here. My husband was diagnosed with stage IV CRC at the end of January. He has mets to the peritoneum wall, the omentum, and maybe the liver. The liver mets seem to be on the surface and may actually be on the peritoneum and just crushed up against the liver. He has starte...
