Re: Hello from a new member

Could you please explain why you needed chemo when doctor thought they removed everything and so many lymph nodes were clear? I had same cancer as you, some in upper rectum and muscle and yet was staged at 1b with no chemo recommended and concerned that maybe I should have had it. I had about 16 lym...

Re: Possible for long term remission with only chemo?

Your story made me want to cry. How disheartening. My family member, who is a doctor, said that it is always a concern when they are removing cancer, that some of it could leak out during the surgery. I'm so sorry. That is why when my surgeon said he was doing open surgery, my family member (doctor)...

Re: Severe bone pain in lower leg

CaGirl, thank you for your thoughtful post. It meant a lot. I agree with everything you said. Tomorrow, I meet with Oncologist and am going to bring it up again. I'm going to make sure that he 100% understands that I don't feel well, that my fatigue is nothing ever experienced before, that I'm conce...

Re: Dietary issues after colon resection

You had a lot of colon removed. My surgeon said it can take a long time for body to adjust, especially if part of rectum was removed. Because of my shortened colon and rectum, I have to have a bowel movement at least 8 times during the day and usually I wake up during the night and have to go. I fee...

Re: Stage 1 colon Cancer, CEA levels, CT scans

My cancer situation is the same as yours. I am a Stage 1b because tumor had grown into the muscle. All 15 nodes clear. Spot on liver biopsied during colon resection and was benign, so your lung nodule could also be benign. No chemo recommended. CT scan to be done at one year mark. I had full upper b...

Re: 3 Month Post Treatment Update

Benben, thank you so much for your explanations. So extremely helpful. I did not have chemo, which I guess I should be happy about, but I just have a horrible suspicion that I should have had chemo because I just don't feel good and I'm concerned the cancer was already in other cells. I had 6 inches...

Re: Possible for long term remission with only chemo?

So you had a colon resection and everything looked good and there were no lymph nodes involved and then later it had spread to other places? Could you please go through your journey for me? After your colon resection, how long did doctors wait before they had you do CT scans or colonoscopies? How di...

I would also think it depends on if it is a happy marriage. Unhappy marriages cause loads of stress.

Severe bone pain in lower leg

Since last September, when I first noticed blood in toilet and that something was wrong, I also started having a dual aching pain in the bone of my lower right leg. At my first appointment after colon resection, I mentioned it to the oncologist and he said it was nothing to worry about and not relat...

Re: 3 Month Post Treatment Update

Benben, when you say scope are you referring to colonoscopy? You had surgery? How often are you scheduled for colonoscopies and ct scans. My colonrectal resection was November 9, 2017 and my Oncologist wants to wait one year for both CT scan and colonoscopy which I think is too long to wait and let ...

NHMike, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. You and I had surgery around the same time and I'm still fatigued and not feeling great and didn't have to go through chemo like you. I can't imagine what you are going through. I worry a lot that I had cancer cells floating around in blood or ...

Thank you for all of that information, Amy. I will let you know what Oncologist says about it after I meet with him this Friday. Amy, how often do you get CT scans? Do you do colonoscopies once per year?

Re: Open surgery wound 4 months later

Thank you. Just finished oral antibiotics last night. Fingers crossed the holes all start healing quickly. Have to go back to doctor again Friday so he can determine what to do next. Glad your husband's wounds healed. Each day when I take off the gauze, I'm afraid to see what has taken place underne...

Re: CEA rising after break

My CEA was 1. while I still had a malignant colorectal tumor, so my CEA marker is not a good indicator. Since surgery, the last two blood tests have been 0.8, so not much different. I won't be using that blood marker as an indicator for me.

Platelet count 424

I had Colorectal cancer resection four months ago. In December my blood work up was normal. Yesterday, I had another blood work up and my platelet level was 424. In the past it has always been in the low 200s. My document in regard to platelet count, says the normal range is 150 to 400. In addition ...
