Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Hi! It is always hard to run after a period of stop. Here it is very icy and I prefer to run outside with my dog while the kids are running indoor. So it is more a matter of balance and trying to see the slippery spots in the darkness. :)

Re: More chemo after a solitary lung met?

Hi! I also had VATS for a solitary lung metastasis and did not do any chemo after that. The oncologist said it is not the protocol anymore here and it would have been different if it was in the liver.
The metastasis was sincrone and detected at diagnosis.

Re: Surgery Monday 7th 2019 Salvage Resection Surgery

Nice to hear that surgery went well and congratulation with the new family member! I really love huskies, I had two of them, the first in 1991 and the second left us in 2015.

I experience also that running and strength with abdominals helps a lot with making things progress through the intestine.

Re: Thoughts on Stage IV...

I of course looked at stats but is not really depending on me, so it is just to live as happy as possible while you can. Then you might be the lucky survivor. I also agree with your considerations, but how high was the chance to get cancer at 45, given that I was not smoking, I was training and eati...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

It sounds like you don't have a bag if I'm reading the timeline correctly. It would be quite amazing if you could run as fast as you do with a bag on. There were a lot of things I didn't do for fear of it shearing off. I don’t have a bag (anymore). I ran a relay race in Oslo last year, just to prov...

Re: Do I need to eat meat during chemoradiation?

Hi, I did not eat meat during chemoradiation, just a bit right after the surgery, because at the hospital we were served it. I did work well for me. We were adviced to eat what we like, I would add to be careful with fibers, because during chemoradiation the tissues can be irritated and it is easier...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Hi! The colostomy was reconnected when they operated the tumor and made an ileostomy instead. They used the same opening (so my ileo was on the left side).

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

So nice that you had 4 days without issues in a row! I hope it is just the start of a new normality. The hospital adviced lactulose when I was doing radiation. How is it going with training? Here it is autumn now and raining a lot. I try to run three times a week and do strength twice, but the weath...

Re: Rectal cancer stage IV

Today I got a scope and the results of the last cat scan and ecography. Everything is fine, CEA is 1.2. Next control in 6 months. :D Last week I ran a 10 km race, the same I ran two years ago before diagnosis. This time in 47 min, not quite my best time, but I am still very happy given the little tr...

Re: Bladder retention after major surgery

I had the same problem and it resolved after some weeks. At the beginning I could not even feel the bladder muscles and then could empty it by myself but not entirely. The surgeon explained that the nerves get damaged with low anterior resection and they will repair themselves eventually. I still do...
