Re: Chemo Break

Absolutely mention to the doctor of your vacation plans. She can help with scheduling the appointments around them. Mom should be good for the next scheduled treatment. Maybe talk to the doctor about dropping the Oxaliplatin on the 2/2 appointment since that seems to be the one drug that causes the ...

Re: Chemo Break

HI. My mum is having chemo every 2 weeks started from August-2017 as her CEA did not go down after surgery. She is now undergoing Folfox with Avastin as her lung mets are inoperable. So far the result seems ok coz her CEA dropped back to normal. We manage to travel with her in mid-Feb. The problem ...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

I just looked at Mr Ziggy’s CT results. Thoracic nodes same, left lung has some pleural effusion now, infection? More nodes in abdominal and pelvic. More of them and a little larger on ones that were there. I could seriously vomit right now. CEA came down 1600 points, but they didn’t run CA-19-9 wh...

Re: 49 with Stage IV and mets to peritoneum and abdomen

Surgeon at USC Keck was not able to complete surgery because the discovery of mets. Treatment plan is folfoxiri with Avastin. Port placement on Wednesday and chemo on the 15th. The goal is to get to the point of being able to have surgery with HIPEC. I see most posts about folfiri and folfox, but n...

Re: 1st CT since diagnosis - question

Rachel2017 - Check out Dr. Cheryl Aylesworth in Silver Spring. She is my oncologist and is wonderful. Head of clinical trials at Holy Cross, very well connected at NIH/NCI. I could not imagine a better oncologist. Not sure where in DC you are, but it is at least worth talking with her. Take care, B...

...What kind of doctor we should go to have the lab orders? Some kinds of orders might be specialized enough to require outside support e.g. the Lexington group I mentioned earlier; the lab tests we use do not - all are available through the Life Extension 800 number and probably most labs. We just...

Re: 1st CT since diagnosis

We are fortunate enough to live close to a higher ranking cancer center. My husband actually works in the IT department at the cancer center prior to my mother's diagnosis and is familiar with many doctors and nurses. Her Onco was just assigned to her from her colorectal surgeon, but through talkin...

Re: HIPEC - MY BFF W/Appendix Cancer

Rachel, I don't know what JHH is (John's Hopkins?), but your signature is a little confusing to me in stage of your DM's cancer, or if she had colon resection or just laparoscopy. However, if the docs are stating that it is behaving similar to appendix cancer, not sure what that means unless it is b...

Re: 1st CT since diagnosis

Good Luck and hope the scan shows good response the treatment. Hopefully her CEA is a good marker for her since it has gone done so much. My mom's Onco always asked if we wanted to see the actual scan or just be told what was in it. She also has a health portal that her tests are uploaded to and ar...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

So far we seem to be able to catch a lot more ("everything"?) with the expanded blood test, where CEA alone just does not hack it (e.g. CA19-9 and AFP; several indirect cancer markers are helpful too). If you can see markers move above the noise level (with noise reduction), you're more l...

Re: any peeps with BRAF mutation on here?

NHMike you were right about second opinions and going to a cancer center. If he had stayed at his local hospital I shudder to think... this is absolutely unreal! Dare I hope?!? Yes! We are so excited! And the poor man was crying yesterday. What a difference a day makes. Someday we won’t be doing ch...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Did you look at Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes Therapy at NCI? yep, we did. Since the tumor shrink a little after she had the avastin. We are not qualify for the screening yet. The cancer behaves weird, I always wonder is there a way she can get the diagnostic from NCI? I wish some doctors can figu...
