Re: right side pain under ribs

Do you have a history of IBD (Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's?) My CRC seems to have not returned, but unfortunately, after 22 years of "under control" Crohn's disease, I have just been diagnosed with PSC (primary sclerosing cholangitis -- bile duct disease) AND high-grade dysplasia in my bi...

Re: Managing erractic mood swings. Is psychologist the answer ?

Hey Jolene, I have a few years on you, but my "perimenopause" is basically just manifesting itself like a missed period here and there, which may even last for a couple of years, I hear. Don't let doctors blow off your concerns, but I also wouldn't assume that the day you end chemo you'll ...

Re: Managing erractic mood swings. Is psychologist the answer ?

Oh my word. Let yourself off the hook, Lady! Of course you are having erratic mood swings! (Come on in. The water's warm!) I have to tell you, almost immediately upon diagnosis two years ago, I called the Women's Cancer Resource Center and got the name and number of a therapist who specializes in ca...

Re: New to this group

Also, keep in mind that not all chemo treatments are alike. Maybe some folks on here can speak to previous or subsequent cancers vs. CRC? I've heard Folfox -- one day infusion, two days with pump -- is more tolerable than chemo for other cancers. I got through 12 cycles. (Nine or so with the Oxalipl...

Re: Sadness (sorry for the blues)

I found solace in When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron. I know it's helped many friends through tough times, as well. (And we weren't the "spiritual" types.) I even checked back in with the book last week, when I was sure my liver complications (chills, achiness, slight abdominal pain an...

Susan -- congrats on finishing chemo. Am sending NED vibes to you for fantastic news next week. (I can't believe you have to wait that long for scan results, though!)

Thanks NHMike!

Congrats on your port removal, too! I remember how good that felt for me. Like I could really move on without it.

Final Chemo Anniversary

Hi Guys, This week marks my one-year anniversary of my final (12th) Folfox round. (Injection on the 12th, Disconnect on the 14th.) Damn, it's been a good year since! I mentioned to my sis and my husband, but it's not something you can really broadcast or celebrate. Yet, it feels profound. So, I want...

Re: Stage 3 After Treatment Plans?

Ah yes. I think about this daily. My oncologist wanted me to wait a full year between scans, since he says the risk of cancer from radiation is increased after 7 or 8 scans, and I've already had 4, and since I'm relatively young. However, people here have encouraged more frequent scans ("I'd ra...

Re: Scared I might have Cecum Cancer. 24 years old male.

Do a colonoscopy. Absolutely no reason not to. (BTW, I had no symptoms except anemia when I was diagnosed. Felt pretty good, in fact. Gastro had even told me likelihood of colon cancer "extremely low".) There's a good chance you're clear -- and you ARE young -- so don't be scared premature...

Re: Recurrence, Surgery, and Post-Surgery CEA

I can tell you I love my Oakland Kaiser oncologist -- Dr. Ashok Pai. I switched to him from another (female, same as yours, maybe?) oncologist at Kaiser who was absolutely HORRIBLE. Also, though, I think even within the same facility, they respect your decision to get a second opinion. Dr. Pai even ...

Re: Nervous: Where is My Period?

Thanks, All! Docs seem confident it is not indicative of recurrence or another cancer... I'll have another CEA test in a month or so, at least. My newest problem: pain in the bottom of my foot. OUCH. (Plantar fascitis?) I really don't want more medical visits right now. Can't I pretend life is back ...

Re: Nervous: Where is My Period?

Thank you, WarriorSpouse! Both my Oncologist and OB/GYN are saying the same. Onc said delayed hormonal response to chemo is likely. I just wonder why it was like this before diagnosis, then regular after tumor removal, now back to irregular. Coincidence? Nice to hear from others of a similar age, th...
