Re: Liver lung mets rectal cancer UK

We just returned from London (we live in the US) where my husband had ablations to his liver mets (4) and then 5 days later, ablations to his lung mets (4, I think). We, of course, were self-pay, but I’m sure NHS covers these procedures in many cases. I would be happy to provide you with the names o...

Re: Xeloda-induced diarrhea

Thank you, Zephyr, all good suggestions. After the diarrhea started, my husband also got blood blisters on his hand, extreme fatigue and, the icing on the cake, painful mouth sores. The onc told him to wait another week before starting back on Xeloda and then to reduce the dosage. We will see if it ...

Re: Xeloda-induced diarrhea

I'm not on Xeloda but I've had issues with diarrhea from a trashed gastrointestinal system. Imodium worked well but it ended up over-correcting for me, and then I had constipation, and it went downhill from there. After trying about everything suggested, rice congee did the trick for me. It was sug...

Re: Xeloda-induced diarrhea

If the diarrhea is associated with damaged villi and mucosa then it might be partly a toxicity question and a question of supplements for GI healing. Although dosage is the easy blame, some drugs or folic acid can magnify 5FU or Xeloda's toxicity. We used supplements like glutamine, vitamin C, zinc...

Re: Xeloda-induced diarrhea

My husband is on Xeloda (and Oxi-). He has diarrhea from it that is occasionally worse than normal. His bowel movements have only been solid a few times since his colon surgeries this past spring and summer. His doctors recommended Metamucil to bulk up when he was having issues. I was surprised bec...

Re: Xeloda-induced diarrhea

Oh yea...that's me! was on Xeloda for 6 months. The last 2 days of the 2 weeks, I had diarrhea. Immodium worked. By the end of the 2 treatments, I would go to the bathroom up to 10 times a day. Just to let you know, as the treatment progresses...the cumulative effects will make him have more diarrh...

Xeloda-induced diarrhea

My husband started Xeloda two weeks ago. Two weeks on then one week off. Toward the end of the first two weeks, he started getting diarrhea 3-4 times a day. It really exhausted him. The pharmacist told him to take Imodium. Has anyone successfully treated Xeloda-induced diarrhea with anything natural...

Re: Curious about "maintenance"

I'm not willing to go the total naturopath route because I believe he needs some chemo. I started seeing a naturopath whose practice focuses on oncology. She never, ever suggested that I give up chemo; to the contrary, her recommendations were all clearly in addition to chemo and worked around my c...

Re: Curious about "maintenance"

Thank you, rp1954,

You've given me a lot to go on and I very much appreciate it. I may have more questions and I hope you don't mind me asking. But with your response and mariane's response and zephyr's response, I have enough research to keep me busy for a while.

Re: Curious about "maintenance"

Dear LifeandPeace, I am a stage 4 cancer patient of Dr. Kemeny from MSKCC in NY. Have ever consider to consult her? I met many of her new patients and their disease often involved more than just liver. She is the "liver mets whisperer". Even without HAI pump usage , she has the greatest e...

Re: Curious about "maintenance"

That's a conventional Xeloda maintenance plan. Wife uses continuous daily chemo with extra adjuncts like celebrex and heavy duty supplements, slowly changed until the various markers improve. We have picked off several scanned objects each in the peritoneum, liver and lungs at different times with ...

Re: Skin rash side effects from Xeloda

Hi OC Stacy, I hope your mom's surgery went well. My husband just started Xeloda this morning so no rash yet, but the USC pharmacy sent a tube of Urea20 intensive hydrating cream made by Rugby along with the Xeloda. Might be worth a try. Our onc said to put it on and then put plastic bags over the h...

Curious about "maintenance"

Any stage IV's out there been put on Xeloda for "maintenance?" My husband starts tomorrow after his latest scan showed some of his many tumors shrunk and the rest stayed stable. He's pretty nervous about it. He'll take 2000 mg twice a day for 2 weeks then be off for one week. The onc said ...
