Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

My surgeon did a sigmoidoscopy about a month after finishing chemo/radiation. He said all that was left was scar tissue and I may not need chemo after surgery depending on the pathology report. I also had a pet scan that showed no sign of cancer especially in the distal rectal area. After surgery, t...

Re: I am so worried.

This is standard for rectal cancer. As you can see from my signature, after chemo/radiation my surgeon did a sigmoidoscopy and all that was left was scar tissue. A pet scan showed now sign of cancer before surgery. I had an endoscopic ultrasound for staging after the CT scan showed no spread of dise...

This makes me so sad. She was always so positive even though she was dealing with recurrence. Prayers to her family.

Re: For stage 2's Ned for how long?

3 years NED as of September 9, 2015. I did do 6 rounds of preventative chemo after surgery. Doing pretty well for the most part. Just dealing with after affects of treatment, digestive issues and some neuropathy. So thankful and grateful to be living life.

Re: Such a blow!

I am so sorry. What happened? Your signature shows clear colonoscopy in May, and clean scope in September. Did you have some symptoms or a scan that showed a new tumor. I am praying you can get through this, there are many here that have recurrences that are NED. You have been through so much and ho...

Re: Can tumors bleed big amounts at a time?

I think any blood should be checked out. I had a 2cm rectal tumor. The bleeding was never heavy. It was usually occasionally streaked on the stool or when I wiped. I also assumed it was hemorrhoids as I had a colonoscopy a few years before that showed internal hemorrhoids. I did one of those take ho...

Re: Down to 104 pounds. Help

I lost 40lbs during all my treatment. My doctors kept telling me to gain weight. I also went through chemo without a bag and always had diarrhea. After finishing treatment I could not gain weight either. Because of having to go to the bathroom all the time I either just would not eat, or if a did it...

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

The chemo is hard on the bottom. I had a blockage 4 weeks after resection and had to have surgery to remove scar tissue. My surgeon decided to reverse my ileo while he was in there. I was happy for the reversal but it made it much harder during chemo. Had alot of diarrhea.

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

I also had that burning when urinating during radiation. Was horrible like passing glass. I had to use lidocaine gel to numb the area before I went. It took about two weeks to totally subside. I didn't have alot of symptoms before diagnosis, just some blood on my stool. But the sigmoidoscopy a few w...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I know some doctors recommend or have no problems with enemas while others are not onboard. It may be too soon after your reversal. I was a year and a half after my reversal before enemas were recommended to me. I went through a couple tests, met with a dietician, and had pelvic floor therapy. The G...

Re: STAGE 3 rectal cancer treatment without surgery

I know after my chemo/radiation the surgeon did a sigmoidoscopy and said all that was left was scar tissue. While he never offered watch and wait he did say I may not need chemo after surgery. This made me happy. The pathology after surgery showed minimal residual cancer cells, so oncologist did rec...

Re: Feeling confused . What symptoms to watch for

I understand. I always feel sad and stressed when test time and appointments come up. I will be 3 years NED on September 9. I am hoping it continues to get easier as time goes on. Not a day goes by that I don't think of cancer though.
