Re: Is 6 cycles of Folfox enough?

I think that the reference is: Adjuvant FOLFOX treatment for stage III colon cancer: how many cycles are enough? The 5-year overall survival rate of patients was 77.9 %, and the 3-year disease-free survival was 76.7 %. For overall survival, a significant benefit was noted for treatment of at least 8...

Re: Ileostomy Reversal - My Journey

Glad things are improving. One thing that I found that really helped with diarrhea is barrier creams or sprays. My insurance covered Cavilon wipes to use with the illeostomy but some folks here suggested Cavilon spray and it was much easier to apply and it formed a nice barrier so that the skin didn...

Re: CEA Uptick From 3.3 to 3.4……..Any Cause For Alarm?

Mine rose through adjuvant chemo and I think that it was correlated with exercise. The oncologist did order a scan at the end of chemo as he was a little concerned, and there was nothing. It went down slowly after the end of chemo - my walking declined with time as well.

Re: Starting point

I'm posting on your thread as it was interesting reading through it. So many things have changed from five years ago with TNT as the Standard of Care. It was just going into trials around 2018 I think. The main idea back then was that some people would have no evidence of disease after Chemo and CRT...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I was at Dana Farber two weeks ago and the appointment was fine. We talked more about running and tennis than cancer stuff. Bloodwork is fine as is health. I haven't had obstructions since last summer and I think that I will generally attribute it to dietary changes, both what I eat and the volume I...

Re: Rectal cancer stage IV

Great news indeed. I think that five-year survival rate is one of the big metrics in the US. I take it life is basically normal for you now.

Re: CEA went from 107 to 3. Update and surgery date.

My CEA was never above six but it dropped a lot after surgery. I recall getting the size of my tumor from the pre-surgery MRI.

Cancer markers going down substantially should be a good sign. It means that the marker works well for you too.

Re: Ileostomy Reversal - My Journey

Hi fellow colon issue sufferers. I am almost 13 weeks post surgery and I can report that my small intestine is continuing to take on more characteristics of my large intestine. I take Metamucil 3x a day and imodium 2x a day. But what comes out of my butt is much better than what went into the my ba...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

That’s great news! I go for my 3 month surveillance in about a month. I am slowly trying to exercise more, now that I am 6 weeks post reversal. Recovery has been very good, but about 5 weeks post takedown, I ended back in ER with a partial obstruction. My surgeon had said I could eat anything, no r...

The thing about the imaging is that it's reassuring that I don't have cancer. The downside, of course, is all of the radiation involved. It is a sign of returning to some level of normal.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Fantastic news! Congratulations! How is the training going? :D All the best Claudia I have slowed down a lot of cardio, increased tennis and am doing Yoga and Strength-Training daily. I am shifting back to cardio while trying to maintain the other stuff. We had a lot of bad air quality days earlier...

6-month surveillance visit today. I really like the suburban campus as it's a lot easier than driving into Boston and parking.

Bloodwork was fine. No more imaging. Colonoscopy in a year (every three years). Still on a six-month schedule.

Re: A series of unfortunate events

Okay, so here is where I could possibly use some insight. Definitely in this life, no one gets out of here alive and by this age, we all have wear and tear on our bodies. The CT scan said I had a borderline prominent Left supraclavicular lymph node that was stable ( was 15x9 mm now 15 x 11 mm). Sma...

Re: Covid 19 vaccine

President Biden ordered another 200 million Pfizer vaccine doses to be delivered from Fall to Spring. These are in anticipation of EUA for children under 12 and potentially for booster shots for immunocompromised adults. Pfizer and Moderna are also working on boosters targeted at the newer variants....
