Re: son tumor free, but not cancer free

Craig's wife, posting for Craig If I were you I'd be asking the same questions. If your son has the FAP gene, then the most likely course of treatment would be to remove his entire colon. My husband's family also has a genetic mutation for colon cancer called Lynch syndrome. It is different in that ...

Re: Successful HIPEC, stormy recovery

Craig made it out of ICU last Friday and we are now once again on the floor. His respiratory problems are coming around, but now we are battling nausea and vomiting. He isn't able to keep anything down, it's weird that this only started once we left the ICU. He was on tube feeds for over a week and ...

Re: Successful HIPEC, stormy recovery

It's been a week since he was placed back in ICU and on the ventilator. He's on antibiotics and his pulmonologist says he's progessing, but admits it's slow. I'm losing confidence in the staff here. I thought I had done all the research about the HIPEC and never in my wildest dreams would have ever ...

Re: HIPEC-who has had and willing to talk about it

Thank you for your honesty and willingness to talk about your experience. I did want to ask, how big were your peritneal mets before they did the HIPEC? Also, was your cyberknife surgery on your peritoneal mets or something else? HI! I had cyberknife surgery followed by HIPEC (Heated Interpertineal ...

Re: HIPEC-who has had and willing to talk about it

Yes, a radiologist from Wake Forest and the CTCA poured over my scans from the past two years. My scans from the past as well as another repeated only two weeks after the scan from Wake Forest showed no lung mets and my liver was of normal size. I'm just aggravated, I would like to at least everyone...

HIPEC-who has had and willing to talk about it

Just got back from my last onc visit. My CA 19.9 is still rising, but my PET scan was all clear. The onc recommended more chemo - Xeloda + Avastin and recommended that I seek HIPEC, they're afraid it's brewing. I did go to Wake Forest, went through the pre-screening, and they indicated that I'm a go...

Last treatment!!!

This is Anessa, writing for my husband Craig, just had to tell someone that this is Craig's last treatment on FolFox+Avastin. His bell should start dinging any minute on his 5FU pump. I'm so excited and I know he is too, just to beat down to show it. He has really done well, maintained his weight, C...

ca 19.9 Tumor Marker

At the Cancer Center where I am being treated, they are using two markers to track my progress one is the CEA and the other is CA 19.9. My CEA level is now normal, but my CA 19.9 is being slow to come down. Research indicates that this is a marker for pancreatic cancer, but I've never been diagnosed...

Going to Wake Forest on the 7th

I randomly put a call into Dr. Sugarbaker in DC (my limited google skills indicated that he had was kind of one of the initial researcher in IHPC)Told them about my situation and luckily got to talk with his PA. She indicated that Dr. Sugarbaker was getting up there in years and referred me to eithe...

Effectiveness of FOLFOX + Avastin vs IPHC

Prior to starting chemo my oncologists indicated that I might be a good candidate for IPHC, but now since I'm responding well to FOLFOX + Avastin she wants to wait to refer me for IPHC. By responding well, I mean my tumor markers have come way down. CEA was a 35 now it's at 3.5; however, the side-ef...

Intraperitoneal chemo

Has anyone had intrapertioneal chemo for Stage IV colon cancer that has spread to the peritoneum? According to PET scan and MRI, I have no other metastatic disease, than the implants in my peritoneum, and my doctor believe that this treatment can offer a cure. It's my understanding that only three f...
