Re: Fistula Questions

This is good to know about, because I will need to use a pediatric scope or virtual colonoscopy in the future because of the post-radiation/surgery shape of my colon. My colonoscopy in October didn’t go past the recto-sigmoid junction. I will definitely ask about the risks of a fistula in the futur...

Re: Fistula Questions

I am sorry to read about your wife's fistula. I had a recto vaginal fistula caused by delayed radiation damage. Mine developed after ileostomy takedown. It was horrific to deal with. A few weeks after the fistula occured, I had surgery to attempt a repair, as well as an colostomy placed. I had a gr...

Fistula Questions

Yes my wife had her first colonoscopy two weeks ago since diagnosis. Good news things went well no pulps or signs of cancer. Yahoo. The not so good news is that they had to use a pediatric scope as her connection point is narrow, everyone suspects that it is from the radiation. A week after she noti...

Re: Colonoscopy prep question

My wife has done both. Her GI doc is miralax gatoraide method but the rectal surgeon was all by the books and gave her a prescription. She like the miralax gatoraide one the most but has gotten to the point that she uses water. She goes in Weds for a scope so the fun begins for her tomorrow afternoo...

Re: I am so worried.

Just to add about the nodes. It depends on what the nodes drain. I believe the internal iliac drain the rectum and the lower pelvis. Those usually come out with the rectum if that needs to be removed. The external iliac drain the leg. My wife is young and in shape and walks about an hour a day and s...

Re: I am so worried.

Thank you tater (I replied to your PM before I saw your reply here.) Yes they are saying “technically” she’s Stage 3 (or 3.5 according to some in the medical community) because of the internal iliac still being outside the mescorectal area that would typically be removed in surgery. I am reading pr...

Re: I am so worried.

They just called with MRI results—T3/N2. But then they said they found a distant enlarged lymph node in the iliac region. She’s stage IV. I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe. God please help us. Double check with your doctors. I believe it is the internal iliac it can still be stage three. My wife's w...

Re: I am so worried.

Punky you are getting some great responses here on this blog. It is hard to do but you have to let Dr. Google take you down. I know you want to be informed and that is good but some of those numbers are out of date. I did not want my wife to be stage IV and fought with the doctors to tell be that sh...

Re: CEA increase on FOLFIRI

My wife's CEA raised during FOLFOX +Avistan. It upset me and made me worried. The oncologist actually told me that it was a good thing that it raised. He mentioned that it can be inflammation but the marker picks up protein or antigen I can't remember that corresponds to tumor cells dying and that i...

Re: Newly diagnosed rectum cancer

Thanks everyone, for your replies. Just an update. Had my MRI and CT. It would appear as though there is no spread, except to perhaps 1 node. It would also appear as though the tumor is a little father up than initially suggested by my colonoscopy. So, it may become classified as sigmoid. I will me...
