Re: My mom is dying

My mom passed away on 4th July. Me and my sisters were there with her throughout this time. It's been 3 weeks n I still don't feel accepting this. She was our best friend. Strong. Fierce . Independent. A doctor herself. So many people came for her funeral . Relatives. Ex students. Patients . I felt ...

My mom is dying

I don't know what to feel. I still feel like some miracle will happen. That she'd bounce back. The doctors say she can crash anytime. It has all happened so fast. I guess I'm still in denial

Re: G-Tube placed

My DW was hospitalized Monday, and the CT scans show that portions of her small bowel are "matted with tumor" so they do not believe she will have any significant resolution of her obstruction. Therefore they recommended, and my DW accepted, having a venting G-Tube placed. The procedure w...

Re: Back to the Hospital

My DW has been vomiting quite a bit over the past 5 days. This morning, she woke up vomiting, with a 102 degree fever. After consulting with our oncology team by phone, we followed their recommendation to get her to the ER, and from there, she has been admitted into the hospital. The CT scan prelim...

Re: Vertebroplasty

Hope it is successful and she quickly recovers! Is it related to her disease, such as bone mets, or did she have an injury? They said it's due to metastasis. Although we had no idea she had any. No significant uptake on pet scan either. It was a long procedure. They did it at l4 and t12. We'll know...

Re: Symptom management at home

I suggested the girdle to my DW and she looked shocked... her abdomen is too tender and painful to put pressure on it like that. She tried compression stockings but that made the fluid all go up to her abdomen which she found to be worse than just having the swollen legs. She has been vomiting a lo...

Re: Symptom management at home

I have ascites in my abdomen. They can drain it to relieve the pressure. Right now I'm controlling how much is manufactured by the cancer by wearing a girdle 24/7. Even sleeping in it. It was suggested by my surgeon. It truly does help. I still get uncomfortable when I eat too much but I can snack ...

Re: Bone pain

Compression fractures can be treated with injections of a glue/cement like substance into the affected deficit of the vertebrae. The technique is called “vertebral kyroplasty” and is performed by an interventional radiologist. Lumbar vertebrae can suffer fracture and loss of anterior height due to ...

Re: Bone pain

Ok some update. On looking upon scans closely they think it's fracture of l4 . N that's causing the pain by pressing on spinal cord. Anyone has any idea about it? I’ve had compression fractures in my lumbar spine and it caused a lot of pain, inkluding that my legs felt ’odd’. Here is an artikel des...

Re: Bone pain

Hi Sara, your mothers pain might be due to radiation damage from rectal cancer treatment. I developed this about 5 years after radiation, my sacral ilia (join between pelvis and spine) started to fracture with normal life, no falls or accidents, and not repair itself. It was very painful and only l...
