Re: Good news...and I'm at my lowest

I'm honestly surprised myself. Of course I didn't want to have any more chemo but everything I've read on here prepared me for it. Two oncologists have now said they wouldn't recommend adjuvant regardless of my lynch status. They believe it would add 1-2% extra on top of my 90-95% chance of being cu...

Re: Good news...and I'm at my lowest

Sorry if I’m not up to date on this, but did you not have an oncologist during your six weeks of chemo/radiation? What does he or she have to say? I think post-op chemo is pretty standard for stage III, although my Croatian oncologist said it’s not standard in Europe - not sure if that’s true. Had ...

Re: Good news...and I'm at my lowest

I changed from my local team to a team in Melbourne which is only 40 mins away after chemo radiation. This was to Peter Mac, a dedicated cancer research hospital in Australia. They only do cancer, quite an amazing place. Local surgeon was going to do half lapascropic half open surgery, city surgical...

Re: Good news...and I'm at my lowest

The Oxaliplatin is horrible and people don't understand as they think that my cancer is gone (it probably is) but the Adjuvant Chemo has been the most painful part of the treatment for me. Please feel free to rant - it's a tough, tough process. And we really get it. I was dreading this as well, you...

Re: Good news...and I'm at my lowest

If you are like me, you are in limbo = holding pattern, waiting for the other shoe to drop Right ? So you pull back into yourself and ramp up the defenses the news comes in ... may be great, may be good no matter no point getting excited 'cos waiting for the other shoe to drop. Been dealing with al...

Good news...and I'm at my lowest

Bit of a rant incoming... A couple of weeks ago i recieved the news that I had a complete pathological response to treatment confirmed via surgery. My girlfriend cried tears of joy, my family and friends drank for me...and I am at my lowest point of misery as of yet. They seem so confused why I'm no...

Re: Family History

My family history was extensive: Great Grandfather, Grandfather, Mum then myself have all had bowel cancer. Otherside of the family has perfect health  Mum was 57, I was 30 and my grandfather was 40. I had no symptoms so obviously with hindsight we would have adopted a survelliance program bec...

Re: Age 30 (M) Recently Diagnosed, Family History

Just a quick one, got my pathology results today. I had a complete pathological response to neoadjuvant therapy. No cancer traceable in the 15 lymph nodes and tissue removed. They believe its reasonable to think I was closer to stage 2 than 3. Chemo may not be necessary and reversal of stoma soon. T...

Re: Age 30 (M) Recently Diagnosed, Family History

Hey everyone, Currently recovering from my robotic ular last monday, boy that was tough! While I don't have any reports yet, my surgeons kept saying "it was a great success, we got it all out." One even said "they cut underneath the base of the tumor stem cell", which i assume me...

Re: Age 30 (M) Recently Diagnosed, Family History

Surgery this Monday. Nervous as hell but going to try to enjoy the weekend, fancy dinner Saturday night as it might be my last for a long, long time! Any tips for an extended Hospital stay? I imagine I'm going to be out of it for days so won't be worried about comforts until maybe the last couple of...

Re: Age 30 (M) Recently Diagnosed, Family History

I had those same thoughts about my last days of what your brain says is “complete.” Nervous as hell. I had a LAR/TME (which you should be in line for) with a tumor at 7cm. I recovered great from the LAR, although I got a temp ostomy and lost 90% of my rectum. Reversed that and two months later I’m ...

Re: Age 30 (M) Recently Diagnosed, Family History

Surgeon rang me last week about my concerns, said he operates at "12 weeks, 16 weeks, 20 weeks etc" and has no concerns for me at 20 weeks, Dec 18th. Put my mind at ease for a little bit, I guess it's not an exact science and they base there decisions on what's in front of them. Still hang...

Re: Anyone diagnosed in their 20's?

I was diagnosed 4 months after my 30th birthday...so technically still 29 :). My Mum went through treatment four months before my diagnosis for Stage 2A colon cancer. Treatment lasted about a month, felt like an eternity at the time, little did I know I would be on a 10-12 month treatment plan three...

Re: Age 30 (M) Recently Diagnosed, Family History

I think it could possibly just be a Peter Mac process and because I'm in such a heady state of mind I forget things. The Surgeon told me at Peter Mac they re-stage you after ChemoRadiation treatment where most hospitals just go straight to surgery. My initial surgery was booked in for September with...

Re: Age 30 (M) Recently Diagnosed, Family History

Just found out that my surgery has been booked in for Dec 18th and I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing! That's 20 weeks after chemoradiation treatment ended which i thought was way too long, dangerously so from the studies i have read for stage 3. Peter Mac is the major cancer ce...
