Avastin and Avascular necrosis

Hi everyone, My mom has been on Avastin (plus Xeloda) for about three years now after her recurrence. She's doing well, but avascular necrosis is now slowly taking a toll. She has hip pain, and is finding it difficult to climb stairs. We're considering stopping Avastin for a while, at least until he...

Re: Avastin - painful skin after two years

Thanks Siti and CRGuy for valuable advice. I'll check if the Xeloda alternative is available (and covered by our insurance) - that sounds like a good option. BCCA POG program and ARBs seem very interesting. But I'll have to check about availability (we don't live in the US). Thanks again and wish yo...

Avastin - painful skin after two years

Hi everyone, my mom has been on Avastin and Xeloda for more than two years now (28 months); after her Para-Aortic node recurrence (as in the sig below). She's tolerated the combination somewhat well, but the side effects are accumulating. Some side effects are cosmetic (dark skin), some are moderate...

Re: Should we move the scan up?

Hi Brenda, My mom did not have a scan - our doctor recommended that it's not necessary for now since the CEA has not shown an increase (It is currently 4.2). My mom's CEA has always been a little high, varying from 3.6 to 5.1. Her last scan was in November 2018. The plan is to do the scan three mont...

Thanks stu. Although I'm a little anxious, I think we'll wait for a month. Best wishes to your mom and family.

Should we move the scan up?

Dear mom has the following increasing CEA trend over the last 6 months. Her case history is in the signature. Lab 1: 3.6, 4.9, 5.1 Lab 2: 3.6, 3.85, 4.66 The doctor wants to wait for one more month and do another CEA before the scan. But we're worried if that'll lead to wider, inoperable spread. Any...

Re: Xeloda + Avastin Maintenance for NED people

Met the doctor yesterday. We're going to start capecitabine + avastin from Saturday. Avastin dosage as usual, 7.5mg/kg at three week cycles.
Thanks for the support and wishes.

Love.

Re: Xeloda + Avastin Maintenance for NED people

Thanks everyone. We'll discuss with our physician later this week, and I'll post the decision here once we know. My mom hates Xeloda, which gives her fatigue, low blood counts and makes food (waaay) less tasty. Based on your replies though, it certainly looks like we need to give Xeloda+Avastin a try.

Xeloda + Avastin Maintenance for NED people

My mom (who had mets) just had her second clean PET scan (the last one was in May). She was doing FOLFIRI + Avastin between March and early September. Her CEA has dropped to 3.6, which is still borderline. Now, we've been given the option of doing Xeloda and Avastin indefinitely as maintenance every...

Hi CLD, have you already checked if they are resectable? My mom had recurrence in the para-aortic nodes and resection is what we went with.

When ER stress is bad for cancer

Dietary restriction, such as caloric restriction, enhances tumor immunosurveillance but can be difficult to implement in patients. Rubio-PatiƱo et al. (see also the commentary by Green) found that the beneficial effects of dietary restriction on tumor immunosurveillance were mimicked by a diet that...

Re: KRAS and BRAF MUTATIONS

Hi Brenda, My mom has a PET scan scheduled for next month, and the doctors are waiting for the results before discussing long term prognosis. As of now she's doing quite well, cheerful and going about her daily routine as usual. Had to shave her head due to hair loss (from folfiri + avastin), but lo...
