Perirectal abcesses.

About a year after discovering incurable cancer in my rectum, I developed a perirectal abcess in my left buttock. . My doctor said that the cancer can cause this when it invades surrounding tissue. I had the abcess surgically removed Six weeks ago I developed another abcess in my left buttock. I am ...

Re: How long oxilaplatin can be taken?

I had 14 cycles of oxaliplatin as part of the FOLFOX regimen. The last 2 cycles were at reduced strength because of neuropathy. My neuropathy started after the 8th cycle. I saw a study where they recommended taking L-Glutamine while on oxaliplatin. I did so throughout my whole treatment. Currently, ...

Neurontin/gabapentin for CIPN

My PCP has recommended Neurontin (gabapentin) for my chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). I researched this drug but found no references to CIPN, just diabetic neuropathy in the feet. I would like some relief for the neuropathy in my hands. If anyone here has used Neurontin for CIPN, p...

Re: How long did folfiri work

I went through 46 cycles of FOLFIRI before my cancer adapted to it, so about 22 months. This was with a higher than normal dose of Irinotecan.

Re: 5FU infusions

They will definitely use his port to attach the pump. It will be a bit of an inconvenience while he is wearing it. He will need to be careful to not snag the feed line as this will tug hard on the port connection. As I'm typing this, I have a pump attached that was installed this morning (I call it ...

Re: RESTRICTIONS ON IMMODIUM SALE

It's already started. I purchase the Kirkland generic loperamide from Amazon. Last February, I bought 400 tablets for US$66. I looked at the prices today and saw they were going for fifty cents a pill. A bottle of 200 costs US$100. The price has tripled in less than a year. Other brands show similar...

Re: Quality of life on Folfox and others

I've gone through 7 cycles of FOLFOX with 4 more planned. The First Bite Syndrome is the worst side-effect so far. I have some cold sensitivity but it's not severe. I can drink cold liquids and take things out of the refrigerator bare-handed, but not from the freezer. My hands and feet feel a bit of...

Re: L-Glutamine

I take 100 mg B-6, 100 mcg B-12, and L-Glutamine. The B-vitamins were as a result of a post by a nutritionist at Dana Farber. The L-Glutamine is as a result of a study done in Taipei over ten years ago. My oncologist does not see how L-Glutamine can help, but he said that he would "look the oth...

Re: 5FU pump

I had the pump every two weeks for 23 months. When sleeping, I put in on the floor next to the bed and put a pillow over it. I always allow enough feed line so that I can do this. In fact I allow enough feed line so that I can put it on the floor and stand up. I didn't shower on pump days. If I need...

Re: chemo - no side effects yet

First I would like to emphasize that the severity of side effects is no indication of how effective the chemotherapy is. I have been on FOLFIRI for about 40 rounds, with minimal side effects. I get very mild nausea when wearing the 5-FU pump, but this is easily controlled. I have a genetic mutation ...

Re: Deciding if I should take Irinotecan and Cyramza

Everyone's reaction to a chemotherapy drug is different. I have a genetic mutation that allows me to tolerate a higher dose of irinotecan than normal. I have been getting that higher dose as part of FOLFIRI and have experienced only minimal side effects. I do not experience any diarrhea, nor palmar-...

Re: Any Chemo Lifers? Incurable Stage 4

I, too, have been diagnosed with incurable cancer. I've been through about 30 rounds of chemo therapy so far and have been told by my doctor that I will continue to get chemotherapy of various kinds until nothing works anymore. Then It's the Big Sleep. With luck, I too will reach 70 rounds. All we c...

Re: 5-FU cumulative side effects?

I've been on FOLFIRI for almost a year. I find that the side-effects that I experienced leveled out after the first few sessions. I really have not noticed any cumulative effects, but I do not experience that many side-effects at all. I can sympathize with your attitude toward the 5-FU pump. I've na...
