Re: Update - new to the club

My husband was released from the hospital after his open partial colectomy. He's healing very quickly, but has been very troubled by the news he's Stage 3b. Official diagnosis is adenocarcinoma, 9 cm, upper left colon. T3N1aM0. Moderately differentiated. I'm still a bit hopeful we can preserve some...

Re: Surveillance Plan Questions

thank you!!! I have until Monday to get a surveillance plan in place to compare to the one onc thinks. My gut tells me he will only have the minimum required so I need to be prepared. My onc is very conservative... He really just wants me to follow along blindly... I have to advocate for myself ......

Re: Reducing Oxaliplatin

...Is there anything you can think of that might help me get through the eight cycles without having to reduce the Oxaliplatin even more? You might ask your oncologist about IV Vitamin B12. My oncologist gave me an injection of Vitamin B12 once for peripheral neuropathy, but that was all. I don't k...

Re: Please help, input needed

I'm starting chemo next week. The procedure will be a bit different because of covid. I'll be taking pills and coming in only once every 3 weeks for Oxaliplatin infusion. So, it looks like your adjuvant chemo will be the CAPEOX/XELOX regimen. This time around the Xeloda will probably be at a higher...

... I'm struggling with 3 things right now: ⋅ How reliable are the initial CT scans and surgical findings? Can we be reasonably confident it hasn't spread? Or am I just fooling myself thinking the surgeon might have got it all, and a specialist will cut the legs out from under me? . &sdot...

Re: Some CEA studies I found interesting

hwr - I have a question: Your signature says that you had appendix cancer, but it doesn't give the details of what kind of cancer it was. What evidence do you have that your tumor was the same type of cancer as found in colon cancer? Cancer of the appendix differs from colorectal cancer https://www...

Re: Surveillance Plan Questions

What did/does your plan consist of? I was not given a written plan. My five-year surveillance period was managed by my surgeon, who was the last doctor to treat me (ileostomy reversal, 6 weeks after last chemo). My oncologist was not involved, but would have been contacted if any of my tests had tu...

Re: Please help, input needed

Thanks guys, chemo starts on the 18th. I'm still having pain issues. The pain isn't particularly bad it's just incessant I don't mind too much during the day but I've been having a hard time getting to sleep. I'm also having issues with the ileostomy appliance. Middle of the night leaks and allergi...

It's really nice to hear that you're back home again after that unexpected stay in the hospital. I'l bet your dog was happy to see you return!

Does your oncologist have any idea when you will start your adjuvant chemo regimen?

Re: Pre and post surgery question

Hi All, been battling rectal cancer since Aug 2019. Neo-adjuvant chemorad 6 wks (5FU only for chemo). Clinical stage T3N0. Surgery 2 mths ago, path report T4bN1aM0, clear margins. My worry is CEA was 24 at surgery and now right before 1st adjuvant FOLFOX is still high 7.0 . Inflammation levels are ...

Re: Xeloda dosing and newbie questions. Please help

Your mom could contact her oncologist on Monday to seek clarification on these two issues: 1. Why did the oncologist recommend Xeloda dosing at half the protocol-recommended level during neoadjuvant chemo/radiation? He should be able to explain his rationale for doing this. Normally the low 50% dose...
