Re: How can I help my family watch me die?

Dear lovemyameliasky, I am so touched by your post and by your loving thoughts on this incredibly tough topic that I just have to comment. I feel that I might have some perspective to offer, and I hope what I have to say is helpful. I just was the caregiver for my mom through her cancer process (als...

Re: She’s gone...

I am so so sorry. I lost my mom in December to this disease and the pain is still raw. Please reach out to me via message if you need someone to connect with who has gone through this. As others have said, there are no words to describe losing your mom. Sending love and peace to your family.

Re: Looking for excellent colorectal surgeon for minimally invasive surgery

Thank you, Rainykatie. Dr. Paty does look like a good option, I looked him up after the first recommendation. At this point, we are going to wait until my husband's tumors shrink a bit more before pursuing surgery. I will look into the treatment options at MSK. I do like their "About Herbs&quo...

Re: Inserting Port or not

Hi Mercy110- I am a caregiver for my mom who also is a stage IV patient. She got her port right away after her diagnosis. I admit it seemed very scary and weird at first- especially as everything was happening so fast. However- after sitting through 8 rounds of chemo with her and numerous other doct...

Re: New and husband just diagnosed

Hi prayingof3, Looking at the results you just posted, I'm not a medical doctor and just a layperson so it's difficult to say. To me it looks like they need to do an MRI to say for sure whether or not the cancer has metastasized, but again I don't really understand the terminology. Have you met with...

Re: Looking for excellent colorectal surgeon for minimally invasive surgery

My mom has a surgery scheduled to remove an ovarian tumor with Dr. Phillip Paty at MSK in NY, and I see someone else recommended him above too. Although we have not yet had the surgery, my mom really liked him and the way the team approach at MSK has been impressive. Apparently he is world renowned ...

Re: O/T-Solar Eclipse

That's so cool about your daughter Judy! You must be so proud. :) I am lucky enough to live in the "path of totality" in Oregon, and despite the fact that my little coastal town is being invaded by tourists for the event, I am really excited. I'm just hopeful we'll be able to see it- it is...

Re: Anxiety for Caregiver

Hi there, you are not alone. Since my mom's diagnosis in April and me becoming her primary caregiver (she moved in with me), I have experienced a lot of anxiety. I had my first ever anxiety attack early on. I am the breadwinner in my family and I have two small children (2 and 4 years old) to care f...

Re: 9 more days!

Hi there, glad to hear your mom only has 9 more days- that is great! My mom lives with me now so I can help care for her too. The good days are the best, I know what you mean. We are currently in the FOLFOX trenches, with 6 treatments down and 6 more to go. I can't wait for her to have a break. Glad...

Re: My husband walked out

Hi, stopping by here to give you a big virtual hug. I'm so sorry this happened! You shouldn't have to deal with this on top of everything else right now. Also, congratulations for having the courage to confront your husband about this- it's really not easy to do. Although it didn't have the result y...

Re: looking for advice for Dad's mobility?

Lee Hi Lee, he is on Avastin, Oxaliplatin and Fluorouracil for chemo. His oncologist said that he should start chemo and see how that goes before doing surgery because by the time he recovered from surgery the cancer could have spread further. I think depending on how the chemo goes, surgery is an o...

Re: looking for advice for Dad's mobility?

Hi lucy, I'm sorry you and your family are going through this. I'm pretty new at this myself, but I wanted to chime in because I'm in similar shoes - caring for my mom who has Stage IV colon cancer that has spread to her liver. She is 73, and got the diagnosis 3 months ago. She moved in with me at t...

Re: I need a little hope

Hi there! I am sorry you are going through this, but this post is full of hope. I am a supporter/caregiver to my mom who also has Stage IV with liver mets, also told she is inoperable. I've only been here a few months but I know what it is like to receive such news and grapple with the tough emotion...

Re: How often do you meet with your Oncologist?

Right now, we see our Kaiser oncologist about every 2-3 months and we usually have to schedule the appointment. We also started to request medical records from each appointment because we started to find that our Kaiser oncologist was not necessarily giving us the full details when we asked. We rea...
