Re: Reversal recovery time

It's less than a week until your reversal. Do you have everything under control now? Any last-minute questions? My mom is coming in to stay with me for 11 days. My surgeon told me he wants me out of work for a month, so that time has been requested. I wish this snow storm hadn't hit this week. My c...

Re: Low Anterior Resection Syndrome: Do you have it?

Her exam was through my vagina. I had damage to my vagina during my LAR. My surgeon accidentally punched a hole in it while scraping my rectum off of it. So I have issues in both openings. I'm so sorry - that really sucks. I feel like recovery from rectal cancer does not receive near as much attent...

Re: Low Anterior Resection Syndrome: Do you have it?

Anne, has your PT suggested going through your vagina to get to pelvic floor muscles? I actually delayed my reversal for the pelvic floor PT because it was so effective. Also I don't think any type of PT can go through the anus - the tissue is too compromised. Any exam etc causes me to bleed. Too m...

Re: PT for LARS

I am already impressed with the pelvic health center associated with my hospital. After talking with me for a while, the physical therapist examined me (old me would have been a bit put off by that, not anymore) to see how strong my muscles were. After that we discussed how she is going to teach me...

Re: Low Anterior Resection Syndrome: Do you have it?

I'll have to revisit this thread after my reversal. I'm seeing the pelvic floor specialist today. Hopefully she will help me avoid some of these issues.

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

Happy new yr everyone! Hoping you are all ok. Just checking in. Had chemo 5 and the fatigue has been hard. Onc wants me to ge the neulasta shot today. Depression continues. I don’t hear enough stories of stage 3c survivors and I get so worried. Reading everything about diet- trying the green tea, b...

Re: Scan timing

My first scan was within days of finishing chemo. I guess it is just what your oncologist prefers. She has me down for another scan around April, which would be 4 months after finishing chemo.

Re: Surgery scheduled, clinical study for Lifeseal, questions about recovery

Chemo is cumulative. You will feel more side effects the longer you are on it. I felt fine after the first two, then had to have my doses lowered a couple of times due to side effects. Don't be discouraged if you have to wait an extra week due to your blood counts. My platelets and neutrophils were ...

Re: Surgery scheduled, clinical study for Lifeseal, questions about recovery

I am a water treatment plant operator and I took a month off after surgery. You may want to speak to your surgeon about the physical nature of your job and see what he has to say. As for ileostomy care in public restrooms, I have never had to change a pouch in public. To make clean up after emptying...

Re: Miss Molly, Hope you are okay. . .

I know exactly how you feel. Two years ago I lost my dear, sweet Pouncer to a stroke. We had been together for 16 years. I didn't think I had it in me to love another cat ever again. But as luck would have it, a month later I was perusing the animal control website and saw the cutest little black ki...

Got good news today!

I saw my GYN oncologist today for the first time. She reviewed the surgical notes, my CT scan and performed a pelvic exam. She is going to present my case to the tumor board next month. As it stands now, she feels that my rectal cancer treatment doubled as ovarian cancer treatment. She said oxalipla...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

For what it's worth, I flew down to Texas at Christmas and had no problems with the TSA over my port and pouch. I went through the body scanner and then they patted me down. I informed them that I have an ostomy pouch, so they avoided that area during their pat down. They asked me to rub my hand ove...
