Re: Radiation induced menopause

I was 34 when I had radio and was sent to a menopause clinic. The OBGYN immediately prescribed HRT (a combo oestrogen/progesterone one) and when I asked about risks of taking it he said that at a younger age the risks are much lower and the benefits far outweigh the risks. No more risk than the con...

Re: Radiation induced menopause

I am a little more than a year past my surgery and the menopause is still going strong. I had hoped that having my ovaries removed would have meant it would go quickly, but I do not have that kind of luck. My next medical adventure is a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. My lifetime risk is too high...

Re: Mom's ileostomy reversal 07/24/18

My pelvic physical therapist told me to use diaper rash cream in order to protect the skin from the caustic bowel movements. I was all red and inflamed down there because I hadn't been wiping for 7 months, so my sweat had been just sitting there. After starting the diaper rash cream, she told me my ...

Re: Nervous: Where is My Period?

I was diagnosed at 39 and started going through menopause during treatment. I was flung completely into menopause when my surgeon removed my ovaries during my LAR. Definitely check it out with your doctor, you never know what else is going on in your body. The pathology on my ovaries came back as ov...

Re: Low Platelets

I know how you feel. My final cycle of chemo had to be delayed twice because my platelets were too low. The first week they were at 78, the second they dipped to 69, then when I went back the third week they were just at 100.

Re: Just diagnosed with rectal cancer and terrified

Welcome to the club that nobody wants to join! I was 39 when I was diagnosed last year in February. You are in the right place for information and support. Feel free to ask anything you want. I'm an open book when it comes to my cancer journey.

Re: Reversal

Good luck! There is so much for your body to learn after reversal, so take it slow. My pelvic physical therapist helped me with dietary advice, because I was struggling. Reintroduce new foods slowly, one at a time. Your body will adjust. I keep a journal of food intake and bowel movements, so I know...

Re: Not sure if this is a stupid question, but ...

The most important thing is that your mom likes her medical team and trusts them. There is a standard of care that all cancer cases start with, no matter what hospital the patient goes to. It is only if the case is discovered to be different than the norm that doctors look to other regimens. We have...

Re: Stoma Reversal or Not

I will look into them. Thanks. I actually tried finding these on Amazon when I was going through radiation and could only find stuff for incontinence. It turned out that I didn't need something that heavy for the radiation but I wanted something just-in-case. I order a box of 48 through Walmart's w...

Re: Please! Read me...

The doctor has labeled my DH stage 4 colon cancer with liver mets as palliative?! He is starting Folfox do I have hope? Palliative doesn't sound very proactive just an easy slow transition down? Please anyone help! Palliative simply means that they want to treat him as a whole. They want to treat t...

Re: Stoma Reversal or Not

It all depends on how much rectum she has left and damage done during radiation. Every person is unique. I was back at work a month after my reversal surgery. I started seeing a pelvic physical therapist before my surgery and continued with her for several sessions afterwards. The tools she gave me...

Apparently, I am too new to send private messages here. But thank you very much. Thank you for the video. I've watched a few massage videos since yesterday this one was different. So I'll try it once I'm lying down. I don't know if I can send you email address via youtube, doesn't look like it. Tha...

Re: Rebuilding neutrophils and platelets

I had the same issue while I was in chemo. My oncologist told me that the only way to keep your blood counts up is to drink plenty of fluids and keep your weight up. I also doubled the amount of B12 I was taking, because I figured it couldn't hurt.
