Re: 8 years NED!

Congrats! I was essentially discharged from MDAnderson today after finishing five-year surveillance, which led me over here for the first time in a long time. Thanks to all the faceless names who helped walk me through everything in 2017!

Re: Hope - Thirteen Year Survival

Congrats!

Per the below, I was dx’d stage 3 rectal early 2017. It’s scared the shit out of me but nothing but all clears since NED 7/31/17. One more to go and I’m outta here, will be discharged from a surveillance at MDA.

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

I am now four years past diagnosis and been NED since 7/31/17. My doc is going to discharge me from MDAnderson in September if everything remains clear. Thanks to you folks here who were absolutely wonderful when I came strolling in knowing nothing about rectal cancer, other than that I had it at ag...

Re: How easy is it to differentiate between benign liver spots and small mets on a CT scan?

I was on my second to last scan before being released from surveillance and they found a small liver spot “not definitively seen” on my prior. My onc is not concerned about it (and my CEA is unchanged) but he ordered a MRI for my next scan, which was then eight months away. Says it’s probably a cyst...

My signature tells my story. Stage 3 and will be released from surveillance at MDAnderson if/when my summer scans come back clean.

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I have my first appointment at Dana Farber since before the pandemic started tomorrow morning. They called today with a list of COVID questions. I'm planning on driving down around 5:15 AM to get there at 6:15 AM for bloodwork and a 7:30 AM appointment. I'll wear my own mask into the building and t...

Re: Just got diagnosed - advice appreciated

I don’t have any specific advice (other than get Ativan in your infusion; they asked if I wanted it and I accepted) - fusions were easy.

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

I’ve got my three year scans coming in early July. Haven’t thought about cancer too much in a while (a great thing) but you everyone here knows how scan time goes. I was diagnosed March 2017, had a path complete response, surgery, and my last all clear (blood and physical exam only) last December. I...

Re: Please help, input needed

I remember feeling like I couldn’t do more chemo. I didn’t have that much of it but it hit me pretty hard. When I felt like I couldn’t handle another round, I did the stiff upper lip bit and had another round. Terrible, unhelpful advice, I know. But Just keep going. It ends faster than you think for...

Re: New to the club we never wanted to join...

This was me three years ago. I was stage 3 and treated for 4.5 months with chemo and surgery, summarily discharged from treatment because additional treatment would be “overkill” and have been NED ever since. I will note that one of my favorite cancer nights was dr. Googling and getting hits to this...

Re: Freaking out of my mind...CEA climb and specks on lungs

My CEA was 1.4 after treatment and has fluctuated between 2 and 2.8 thereafter. At my last checkup my lab results weren't back yet but he sent me on my way. I was all like, "what about my CEA?" He said he wasn't concerned no matter what it was, unless it was something super, crazy high. It...

Re: Transcendental bowel movement

My wife (no cancer for her) bought in of these. I was like WTF is that? She explained. I tried it but it didn’t do anything for me. And I lost 90% of my rectum in LAR.

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

I like reading these stories. Had my six month blood draw and checkup (no scans) and all was well. In and out in 29 minutes. That’s 2.5 years from stage 3. Hope you all are doing well.

Neuropathy question

My last folfox infusion was summer 2017 and my neuropathy completely resolved by early 2018. Over the last week or so I’ve had minor numbness on and off in my feet. Nothing to write home about but it’s gotten to become noticeable. Has anyone heard of neuropathy resolving for the better part of two y...
