Re: Chemo only kills cancer cells??? RANT/VENT

Doc at first visit spent over an 1 1/2 hours going over the treatment and possible side effects. Then on treatment day the chemo nurse spent close to 45 minutes going over every drug and side effects. Also I get Benadryl every treatment. Next week I will no longer get oxi. Just avastin and the pills...

Got latest scan results

Last Monday had another scan. The two tumors shrunk again this time. Not a lot but they did at least shrink some. The tumors are now being measured in mm compared to cm. When I first saw the numbers that kind of freaked me out until I noticed the mm part. One tumor is 12x15 mm and the other is 12x14...

Re: Rant - colon vs rectal cancer

I tell them rectal cancer. When they look at me funny I just say mass in my ass.
I got that from someone on Facebook so I can’t take credit but I love that description.

Question about bleeding

I had treatment yesterday and am still on the pump until tomorrow morning. My first bowel movement this morning was hard and fairly big around. When I wiped I had a small amount of bright red blood streaked on the paper. And my butthole was a little sore after. Do you think this is something I shoul...

Re: Health insurance coverage

I have United Healthcare Heritage Plus through my wife's employer. It's been great so far. Hit out of pocket fairly early so it's copays now. My wife and I are fortunate with how both our employers are working with us on this. My wife's boss which is over where she works isn't changing the insurance...

I could only imagine how much I would pee after scan and treatment on same day with the drink they give you plus fluids with treatment. :D

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

Sorry you have to be here but for support you can't beat this support group. For me when I heard I have cancer I got this empty feeling wondering if I'll be around the next month. Just plain scared to death for what's next. What I want to stress is that feeling gets a lot better. Once you get a plan...

Re: received port

I always ate an egg breakfast sandwich on the way to chemo. I found if I kept food in my stomach, it kept nausea at bay. Also ginger, as in ginger snap cookies, or ginger ale is good for knocking back nausea. I tended to eat several small meals vs 3 meals a day to be helpful. I was told to drink En...

Re: received port

Don't be surprised if you do a lot of sleeping during treatment. I will be in the middle of a conversation sitting up then fall asleep and wake up after slobbering all over my shoulder. My biggest thing I ask my wife when she picks me up is to be with me while walking to the car. The premeds have me...

Re: received port

I second the seatbelt issue. Also make sure your bowels keep moving. The anesthesia with the pain pills will slow your bowels down. I didn't poop for 5 days and ended up in the er with acute constipation. Also if you use the lidocaine they give you you won't feel when they stick you. But if you for...

Re: received port

Don't be hard on yourself about forgetting and mixed feelings. The first 6-8 weeks from diagnosis it is just a ton of shit thrown at you. Once you get into a groove with treatment that hectic part seems to improve a lot. At least it did for me. Here some good news I'll share with you. A lady at chem...

Re: Has anyone heard of this

The issue is what is your plan - are you going to try to achieve a durable NED through surgery(s) and chemo, some form of chemo forever, or whack a mole' episodes of treatments ? You either +- drift along with your oncologist's choices or you have to move purposefully to plot an escape orbit. Altho...

Has anyone heard of this

I just had treatment 11 yesterday with pump disconnect tomorrow. I saw the doc yesterday also. I mentioned that only one more treatment and oxi gets dropped. At this point he told me we can keep going with the oxi after the 12th treatment if the neuropathy isn't bad. I was under the impression from ...

Re: Onco's opinion

I'm stage 4 with liver mets. I do have two spots on my lungs that are about the same size as your moms. Oncologist and colorectal surgeon both think the lung deal is just scar tissue probably from smoking. My second scan after the liver mets shrunk there was no change in the lung nodules or whatever...
