Re: 5-fu pump disconnect question

pdp497 - I think that's a valid concern. I did 4 consults before choosing where to go with treatment. I really liked Dana Farber but the drive was a lot and the treatment protocol was the same so I opted for the closer option. I do contact Dana Farber if I have questions and they'll help but they do...

Re: 5-fu pump disconnect question

Hi, I'm being treated at University of Connecticut and I disconnect the 5-FU pump at home after every treatment. At first they told me no one has done it but then they agreed to let me. Helping our daughter I already knew how to do it and there was no way I was driving back just to have them take th...

Just Capox - no Oxi? I just finished 8 round of 5-FU and I think I'm done. I'm curious what your oncologist told you about this choice of treatment.

Re: Neuropathy - progression - tipping point?

So yesterday I had treatment 8 of Levocorin and 5-FU. Even though my counts were fine they talked about holding chemo a week to see it the neuropathy in my hands improved. It didn't make sense to me to hold it and they were comfortable with it so we did it. The plan is to see how the side effects ar...

Re: Neuropathy - progression - tipping point?

Did any of you get to the point where neuropathy went from tingling to losing motor function - loss of grip, dropping things, etc?

Once chemo ended did the tingling stop?

Neuropathy - progression - tipping point?

Hi, Monday will be treatment 8/12 on 5-FU. After treatment 5 we did a 20% dose reduction because of the side effects - specifically swelling/redness and peeling on my hands along with a stinging and tingling feeling and pressure in my chest. My hands aren't peeling anymore but neuropathy is increasi...

Re: NEWS from ongoing ASCO 2017: shorter chemo for stage III OK

Hi LPL, I got my 23andme results back and I just ran the raw data through livewello.com to interpret it. Livewello is interesting and for $20 the raw data gets read but to see everything you have to buy the premium subscription of $60 a year. I didn't know that when I paid the $20. There is data for...

Re: DPD Enzyme testing - did your insurance cover it?

I did get the 23andme results and it wasn't very informative - it only showed a slight increased risk of early Alzheimers and considering my family history that was expected. No other variants were detected including DPD but the site is filled with disclaimers so I don't know how reliable the result...

Re: Portacath insertion, what to expect?

I hate my port placement - it's on my left side. It's too close to my armpit and it causes discomfort every single day. I think the pain was completely avoidable of they had just moved it about an inch closer to center then it would be in my pec muscle and it wouldn't cause lack of range in movement...

DPD Enzyme testing - did your insurance cover it?

HI, I have pretty good insurance so I was surprised that Anthem denied a request for DPD testing - I'm on 5-FU and the medicals were concerned about some of the side effects, specifically hand foot syndrome. According to Anthem the test is "Investigational and Not Medically Necessary". Rea...

Re: 5-FU dose reduction after 5 treatments

I'm guessing switching to the oral version won't be a an option since h/f syndrome is usually worse with Xeloda than 5-FU.

Re: O'Keeffe's Working Hands or Udderly Smooth for hand foot syndrome

For those who had dose reduction because of h/f syndrome was that your only side effect? When did the dose reduction start and do you remember what it was. It looks like for me dose reduction will be 20% starting with treatment #6 of 5-FU. I've been using castor oil with gloves at night, compression...

5-FU dose reduction after 5 treatments

I'm so frustrated. I'm Stage 2bT4aN0MO - my treatment is Leucovorin and 5-FU. The first 5 rounds were okay. HFS started at round 4 and was worse at round 5 especially my hands - its grade 2. They opted to hold chemo a week and test for DPD enzyme mutation. My counts were good - ANC was 1600 and for ...

That's great - thanks. I just mailed it in on Monday so it will be a little while before I get the results.
