Re: Question for Canadians re genomic testing

Thank you NHMike for this info! I had no idea of these distinctions. It's hard to advocate for your loved ones when you don't even know what questions to ask! As the original tumour was removed in 2012,I imagine the biopsy material is likely long gone, but, according to what you're saying, at least ...

Re: Question for Canadians re genomic testing

Thank you for your responses. We're in Ontario. So it sounds like we'll have to fight for it. And if I understand correctly, we'll definitely need this knowledge for applying to clinical trials.
Hurry up, private sector testing labs!
Thanks again.

Question for Canadians re genomic testing

Hi there, I was wondering what have been the experiences of my fellow Canadians when it comes to requesting and obtaining genomic testing to determine the specific characteristics of their cancer. We brought it up with the oncologist once at the beginning (when we were still hopeful that surgery wou...

Met to hepatic lymph node?

Hello, We just found out that my dad's recent PET scan shows metastasis in one lymph node of his liver. This after a liver resection and lung wedge earlier this year. The oncologist is talking to the surgeon, but he's already said that he doesn't think it's operable (or wouldn't be worth it, given t...

Re: No chemo after liver resection?!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It's good to know it's not unheard of to NOT follow up with chemo, and maybe even a good thing to still have it unused in the arsenal it in case it is needed down the road. Instead of freaking out about possible micromets, I will try to focus on the ...

No chemo after liver resection?!

Well, I've just received a bit of a surprise. My dad went for his liver resection post-op appointment today. He is doing fine: liver and abdomen good. Still a thingy on his lung, but it's only slightly bigger than at Christmas. The bit I wasn't expecting is that his oncologist (who is a respected on...

Re: Help for my dear cousin

Interesting.
Does anyone know of anywhere that offers immunotherapy as a treatment option for MSI cancer? Or is it only through clinical trials that it is possible to do this.....yet?

Re: Cancer is a crap shoot 50/50

LMighty, I hear you. My dad was stage 1, and supposedly 90% likely to be "cured". My mom was the one we were more worried about recurrence for, having had Stage II. While I am extremely grateful my mom is still okay 10 years on, the fact that my dad is now Stage IV really threw me for a lo...

Clincial Trial searching: what medical info do you need?

Hi there, I have done enough reading around the forum to know that MSS vs MSI is a big consideration these days when looking at trials. Can anyone tell me what other info one should know about one's cancer, in order to be better equipped when researching? (Other than the obvious, more general stuff ...

Re: Seeking advice

Nothing helpful to add, unfortunately, but I was wondering if you had any place in mind for HAI, if you decide to pursue it? Unfortunately, I think Sunnybrook is the only place that does it in Canada, and I've only seen it there in the context of a specific trial.

Re: We lost our "a" :(

Thanks for your encouraging responses, Lee and Stu. Very much appreciated!
In fact, it's so small right now that they can't even biopsy it, so hopefully the adjuvant post-op chemo will get it.
