Re: Meningitis

He is at home now recovering from meningitis and he will have his port removed next week as well. I asked if the reason be wasnt being admitted was due to COVID but they said it wasn't, it was because he could get the same level of care at home. He ended up staying 5 days in the hospital and is now ...

Re: Meningitis

Thanks. The argument for why they would not admit him was because they said he would receive the same level of care at home. The oncologist said he should be admitted at least for observation and they told her, "what are we observing?" And she said she listed, that he doesn't have a seizur...

Hi, I dont lost quite often but lurk around the board to get inspired and read advice. My husband has Stage 4 colon cancer and has been on Keytruda and Xeloda combined for the last 3 years. 9 days ago he was complaining of an ear infection, developed a fever of 101 and I took him to an ER. He was di...

Made it to 2 year mark...

When my husband developed Stage 4 rectal cancer 2 years ago, the prognosis was not good. They gave him months to live and said he probably wouldnt make it to the 2 years mark. Thanks to the information, advice, and support from this board we were able to advocate to use Keytruda and he has been doin...

Re: Fatigue Advice

Thank you so much Shana for the kind words! I am so glad you were able to make it to the wedding. This cancer experience has really taught me and my husband that we really have to advocate for what he needs because without the right healthcare team, it's very easy to fall in to a trap of negativity....

Re: Husband recently diagnosed w Colon Cancer

So sorry you have to go through this too. My husband was diagnosed last year at Stage 3. He started with chemo radiation for 6 weeks and he worked the entire time. He scheduled his chemo radiation for 7am and was able to go in to work at 8am. He didn't really feel any effects except a little bit of ...

Re: Stage IV Rectal Cancer being treated with Keytruda

Update: had my CT this morning; doctor just called with results: all tumors show significant regression, and he is going to reconvene the surgical board to reevaluate me for surgery. They are generally ecstatic either way. So am I. And my wife! I’ll admit, I cried after hearing this. Thanks so much...

Re: Immunotherapy

Hi! My Mother has Kaiser but her Oncologist claims Kaiser does not offer immunotherapy and has refused to discuss it further with me. You say that your husband is with Kaiser and that his Oncologist has him on immunotherapy - are you able to talk with me? I am preparing to have a call with my mothe...

Re: Stage IV Rectal Cancer being treated with Keytruda

Thank you for sharing. My husband is on Keytruda and XELOX right now and he is struggling with the side effects. We can't tell if it's the Keytruda or the XELOX. This gives me hope that maybe once he is on Keytruda only, he will start to feel so much better.

Re: Fatigue Advice

Thank you for all the suggestions. We met with our covering oncologist today since our old oncologist was just promoted to a new position at a different hospital and the new oncologist has not begun yet. We had to fight to get an appointment today because my husband wants to begin his leave of absen...

Fatigue Advice

Hi, My husband is on his second cycle of Keytruda and XELOX. He also developed an abscess that he had to have surgically drained two weeks ago and was put on Cipro and Flagyl antibiotics fir the next two months. With the neuropathy and nausea, he seems to be becoming increasingly frustrated and depr...

Re: How often do you meet with your Oncologist?

We were finally able to start immunotherapy and chemotherapy combination today. We never meet with a PA, only the oncologist and not very frequently. We can always call and make an appointment should we need it, but we won't be seen right away. We try to follow what the UCLA oncologist says and try ...

Re: How often do you meet with your Oncologist?

Hi, I can relate to what you are experiencing. I am a caregiver to my husband with Stage 4 cancer who was diagnosed 1 year ago. At the beginning he was Stage 3 and I felt like we were very passive and trusting of our doctors. He progressed to Stage 4 during chemo and radiation and our oncologist (fr...
