Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

I often wonder why there isn’t more similarities when it comes to treatment across the board. Even with CCR after chemo rad I opted for the permanent colostomy (proved to be PCR) and then went on to have 8 treatments of Folfox, removing oxaliplatin after 4 cycles due to being extremely sick. Why not...

Re: Radiation induced menopause

Ahh, how I wish my radiation onc wasn't such an asshat. I didn't discover this forum until after diagnosis and treatment had started before I knew of the option to move my baby parts out of the line of fire. I remember him telling me I wouldn't be able to have anymore children and I broke down cryin...

Re: Chemo / Radiation "breaks"?

Hi G! I too was scheduled to have 28 total treatments of chemoradiation. After week 4, due to bad burns and much pain my doctor "delayed" treatments for 1 week. That week off landed me back in hospital due to excruciating pain while attempting to have a bowel movement, after a few good pai...

Re: 91, Folfox Done, Now What?

Your poor mother in law, what a trooper. I'm 32, and just had my 5th treatment yesterday. #2 made me very weak, I felt as though I hadn't eaten in days. 3 & 4 were even harder and left me so sick I couldn't lift my head out of bed to vomit. This time around we completely cut the oxali and went o...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

SMH Toronto, storry about W&W apptoach: Some patients have such a dramatic response to chemotherapy and radiation that there is no detectable tumour at the time of surgery, said Dr. Fahima Dossa, the study’s lead author and a surgical resident at St. Michael’s Hospital. These patients, termed c...

Re: Folfox.. ugh

The cold sensitivity is kinda cool. I pick up an ice pack and feel like my hand is charging energy that, with luck, I can fire off like a lightening bolt. Hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.. every time I stick my hand in the freezer I'm gonna see lightening bolts. Lol ALL of you guys are awesome.. I ...

Folfox.. ugh

Hi friends! I'm looking for some advice on Folfox. I've searched many threads, but none are really answering my questions.. I'm hoping you can help. I'm just "coming back" from round 3. By coming back I mean, feeling somewhat normal, not extremely exhausted, emotional, nauseous, mood swing...

Re: HELP RC post APR Bladder dysfuction

Hi Mario, I'm not sure if I can be of much help, but I've found myself in a similar situation as your mom. I had my apr surgery January 25th, so many complications with wound infection and draining. It delayed my chemo (folfox) start date by 4 weeks. My onc wasn't worried, and stressed how important...

Re: Some post APR questions..

Thank you both for replying! Janie, can you explain what you mean by irrigating the wound? Initially, my surgeon delayed chemo until the wound was clearing up. After 4 weeks the drainage was nearly gone, ok'd, folfox, back again all within a week. I do go back in for another follow up in 2 weeks, an...

Some post APR questions..

Hi guys! I'm wondering if anyone out there can help me with some questions, or provide some details of their own regarding some post op issues that won't seem to go away. I'm sorry, there may be some yucky details ahead. I had APR surgery on 1/25, incisions were laparoscopic, everything went as plan...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hello again! I'm back, after my apr surgery. My biopsy did confirm I had complete response. There was nothing to be found, and the cancer was gone. Even today, dealing with many little complications, a great deal of pain and battling a brutal perineal infection, I can very comfortably say I wouldn't...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Wow! Thank you everyone, so much for your replies. I spent much of today thinking and talking with family about my options. I believe I have decided to go ahead with surgery. I just don't believe I could live comfortably with the worry and doubt that has consumed me the past 4 months. The what ifs a...

Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

Hi friends! I'm new to the page.. so please excuse me for not understanding all the lingo. :) After much research, I'm still on the fence. I hoped to make my decision this week whether I will proceed with surgery or watch and wait. I've had complete response after 28 radiation treatments, combined w...
