Re: The end of chemo

My son had his port removed 6 months after chemo. It was a big deal psychologically as it sent a message of confidence from his doctor. For my son, the procedure to get the port was not that difficult but the benefits of getting rid of it were significant, so it was worth the risk that he might have...

Re: Looking for Stage II Updates for Colon Cancer Peeps

My son was 2b with several risk factors (T4, LVI, PNI, obstruction, elevated CEA). He finished 6 months of FOLFOX a year ago and is still NED. Has another blood test and CT scan coming up this month. He had some difficulties with adhesions but surgery last December seems to have fixed that problem. ...

Re: Worried wife trying to get information

When my son's cancer was first being staged, the cancer was staged as 2b but the tumor was staged as T4 and sometimes referred to as a stage 4 tumor (even though it was stage 2 cancer). The T4 staging for the tumor meant that it had grown through the colon wall and could no longer be regarded as bei...

Re: Son is ill and I am scared

TXLiz, I am very sorry about your son's problems. I know what it is like to watch your son struggle with health issues and feel helpless to fix it. I cannot imagine, however, having to deal with this on top of the ordeal that your own issues have put you through. You will both be in my prayers. My u...

Re: Reoccuring Digestive issues

Thank you, Karen. Neither the endoscopy nor the colonoscopy showed adhesions, however, the latter was performed right after chemo and before these problems started happening so we might have to repeat. The symptoms do seem to be the same. The gastro called this morning to say that he has scheduled a...

Re: Reoccuring Digestive issues

Thank you for the responses. He had a CT scan and x-ray the last time he had to go to the hospital. It only showed a lot of fecal matter. He does not have BMs (or very little) during these episodes. They kept him on fluids and pain meds for two days until things started to pass again. He stayed good...

Re: Reoccuring Digestive issues

Up until now we have just been going on memory. Earlier today we discussed the need to write it all down. I am going to try my best to help remind him until it becomes a habit.

Thank you

Reoccuring Digestive issues

My son finished chemo last March and has been NED since. He has, however, had reoccurring bouts of severe abdominal pain and vomiting. During these bouts, which typically have lasted 2-4 days, he cannot keep anything down and throws up a neon-green bile. The first of these episodes happened 2 months...

Re: Anyone diagnosed in their 20's?

My son was diagnosed last year at 21 yrs old. I think he, too, felt frustration that his peers could not relate. He is cancer free now and has his next CT in a couple of months but he is so young and active that people seem to think the whole ordeal is over. That is a good and bad thing as he doesn'...

Re: T1 rectal cancer and LVI

My son was also lvi so I, too, tried to learn what I could about its significance in affecting outcomes. I came across a prediction tool on the Sloan Kettering website that had lvi as one of its inputs to determine probability of recurrence in 5 years. For my son's circumstances, his chances of havi...

Re: Thoughts on chemo for stage II patients?

My son had a T4a tumor and dx as stage 2b. His oncologist and the one we got a second opinion from both strongly recommended chemo. His young age was a factor as chemo may be a bit easier to tolerate when you are young and fit, but I would think anyone should try to do the chemo if at all possible w...

Re: Colonoscopy at 19

The procedure will amount to nothing more than a nice long nap. You are smart to go ahead and have this done as many young people don't heed the symptoms. Hopefully the good results you get tomorrow will allow you to rest easier and that eventually the cause of your problems will turn out to be some...

Well just when we were starting to discuss what to do next, things started working yesterday and today they let us come home. We can enjoy a nice quiet 4th of July weekend at home. Thank you all for your helpful advice and support.

Re: Post appendectomy ileus

Thank you for the good suggestions. My son had the 6 month FOLFOX regimen so delayed neuropathy is a potential fit. He had an NG tube for a few days early on and he was throwing up bile every 4 to 6 hours (around the tube). At present he is not on IVs and can sip water but anything approaching solid...
