Re: Worried - CEA increase 93 points in 1 week without chemo

DH was getting the bolus (5-FU push) while at the infusion center and he would leave the center with the 5-FU pump on for 2 days to get the slow drip 5-FU, so he was getting both. Called the oncologist yesterday and the 20% reduction is not having the 5-FU push. DH is handling this chemo much better...

Thanks for your replies. :)

I found on this site,

http://www.exeterlaboratory.com/test/ca ... tigen-cea/

And it said that "A difference of 20% between two CEA measurements is considered medically significant."

"Is your husband on Neupogen/Neulasta on regular basis?"

No, he has never had either of those. He had had 3 transfusions, though.

Re: Another Newbie here - Stage IIIC questions on treatment

The nurses in the infusion clinic taught me how to disconnect my husband's needle from his power port in his chest. For future reference, I used my phone to make a video of procedure as the nurse removed the needle. Then, I went with him 2 times to have the nurses supervise me as I did it. This migh...

Worried - CEA increase 93 points in 1 week without chemo

DH's 6th chemo caused low WBC (2.10), RBC (1.79), Hemoglobin (6.5), Platelets (77), Neutrophils (.48) resulting in holding off on next chemo and immediate blood transfusion of 2 units. CMP 3 weeks after last chemo (1 week late for chemo) showed CEA increase from 78.30 on 10/10 (first drop of CEA eve...

Re: When to participate in clinical trials?

Thanks for all the replies---they really got us thinking. Thanks, LPL for the links, we are going to send DH's info in and see which trials they match us with. Thanks, DH2Sleen, for pointing out the common trial disqualifier of 70 years of age. DH turns 69 in Dec, so we need to get a move on. We thi...

Re: Tumor Sequencing - Type, Provider, When?

Thanks to all who replied---great info and very thought provoking. Based on your replies and the replies to my other post about when to get into a clinical trial and because I think our HEMOC is going to say that FOLFOX is failing based on DH's rising CEA and recent PET scan showing confluence in ri...

When to participate in clinical trials?

DH on 1st line of FOLOX and will have 5th tx Wednesday. Current oncologist not giving us any hope, just says that the chemo is pallative. Recent CEA went up a bit, so DH had PET scan. Shows PR with possible area in right liver lobe of confluence that might indicate chemo failure. Taking wait and see...

Tumor Sequencing - Type, Provider, When?

1st post - thanks to all who have come before us. Lots of questions about tumor sequencing: 1. When should it be done? Is the timing different for the different sequencing methods? Before treatment, after 1st line failure, etc 2. Which type of sequencing method is the best for mCRC? (whole genome, t...
