It's been several months since I popped in here for a shot of hope. Your journey is inspiring - thanks for posting.

Re: Possibly still NED...our story to date

My husband’s 5-fu pump was just about empty at 9:30 am this morning, just in time for his 10:30 disconnect appointment at our little cancer center in town. So far, he has had practically no side effects from the folfiri. He takes 1 gram of ginger daily which I started giving him a few days before h...

Re: Stage IV research: best chance at being cured

I think another part of this discussion should be the mind-body connection. If stress leads to inflammation and inflammation feeds cancer, to what extent do relaxation therapies affect tumor progression?

Re: Finally reached the 'forgot I had cancer' spot!

Mother can start an argument in an empty room. Oh my gosh, I spit out my water when I read that! Thanks for the laugh (my monitor is not laughing but will just need to get over it already). I have a similar family situation. I noticed a lot of new names and wanted to share HOPE. I was so sure I'd n...

Re: Anyone doing xelox and xeloda. Please help

Dehydration ... Alternatively, you can make your own sports drinks inexpensively by mixing packets of oral rehydration salts with plain water. They come in different flavors. You should be able to find a flavor that you like. Please forgive this brief interruption to say thanks for the suggestion. ...

Re: Question about Xeloda scheduling/timing differences

Dr. Saab stated Europeans do better with it than Americans. Which may .... have to do with folic acid supplementation of just about EVERYTHING in North America  ... leading to an increase in toxicities. Best wishes CRguy From a Medscape article I found about Xeloda dosing: The US has an ag...

Re: Weisenthal Cancer Center

There is likely limited harm / opportunity lost by using an ineffective regime for a few months anyways. Speaking only for myself, it depends on the side effects. I spent 6 months on a treatment that wasn't working and it about did me in. I don't know how my husband kept me going. If I had known go...

Re: Stage IV research: best chance at being cured

I happened to be reading this article when you made the suggestion. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5114008/ It's a good starting point. Gotta go! Back later in the week! Safe travels! Edited to add: I think I'm a reasonably intelligent person but I only understood a small portion of t...

Re: What does "5-FU clearance" mean? Re: Xeloda

I believe that the term essentially means "to be gotten rid of" i.e. " to clear" the body. For chemo to be "gotten rid of" within the body, it is via metabolism and excretion (out through the kidneys -- pee!). Here is an article I looked at to see if I am on the right ...

Re: Stage IV research: best chance at being cured

Thanks for starting this thread. The whole micrometastates issue is making me crazy and I also am obsessed with figuring out something. I had lymph nodes tested after my CRC surgery, and two lung surgeries. My lymph nodes have all been clear each time. I've had my blood tested twice for circulating ...

What does "5-FU clearance" mean? Re: Xeloda

I should be able to figure this out but I'm stumped. I found a Medscape article about Xeloda that states: During the first cycle of capecitabine development, three concomitant drugs were found to affect 5-FU clearance. Paracetamol and morphine increased 5-FU clearance by 26% and 41%, respectively, a...

Re: What options after chemo no longer effective?

Chemo "ineffectiveness" has become somewhat of an obsession of mine these days... I am trying to ensure that my husband gets the absolute best chance at being cured. This includes preventing any cancer cells from going through and staying in the EMT, i.e. entering dormancy aka evading che...

Re: What options after chemo no longer effective?

I had the live tumor tissue tested with various chemo formulations by an outside lab. I'm seeing my ND today and I'm going to ask her about finding a lab to do this kind of testing. It's something that somehow never occurred to me. Live and learn. Do you mind sharing the name of lab you used? If no...
