Re: CEA levels

Hi everyone. I rely on you more than the doc!!!!! Can you tell me your opinion about these CEA levels? DH's CEA has never been very high. It was 1.4 one month after surgery in 2015. It was 1.2 in September 2016. It was 0.5 in September 2017. This year, October 2018, it was 1.6. No big deal? Thanks ...

Re: Please can I ask some questions?

3cm would be just over 1 inch - which would make for a large fingertip. I'm thinking 3mm. Did the doctor mention that the lump might be an internal hemorrhoid? Another fistula? A 3mm polyp may be too small to bleed, but a hemorrhoid could be bleeding. It would be considered to be in the rectum. The ...

Re: Isolation

I can understand that having the stoma is a big change in your life. I've never had a colostomy or ileostomy. What I do have is almost constant daily abdominal pain from the scar tissue from 4 abdominal surgeries. I would welcome a colostomy if it would stop the pain. The pain has isolated me. I hop...

Re: New Member - Cancer Recurrence

Found out recently that my cancer has recurred after being NED for 4 years. Last time around (at age 35) I had relatively straightforward colon resection (sigmoid colon) and 12 rounds of FOLFOX. This time around, because of location, doctors have recommended what I understand to be the protocol for...

Re: Stomach Cramps - 6 months after Polyp removal

Fast forward to this past weekend and I started having stomach cramps, mild but fairly consistent and have stuck around for 3 days now. My first thought is that either something was missed or I have something growing inside of me quickly. Looking for your thoughts on how quickly things can progress...

Re: Dad hasn’t just been diagnosed with stage IV

My mum has been told that chemo isn’t an option as he can’t sit up and they’ve done some radiotherapy, but I believe that’s to kill the nerve endings in his spine to stop the pain. I've never heard about chemo not being an option because the person can't sit up. I know that at the chemo center I go...

Re: Proton Therapy for Liver Metastasis from Stage 4 Colon Cancer

I read that proton therapy didn’t cause too many side effects for at least one person on this thread. Anyone else have any experience with this? How were the side effects? I've read some Facebook posts from people who have received proton radiation and their side effects were minimal to none. Best ...

Re: Proton Therapy for Liver Metastasis from Stage 4 Colon Cancer

My understanding is that the proton therapy will ‘buy me’ a matter of either weeks or months in terms of delaying the start of the next line of chemo, FOLFIRI I'm wondering why the docs would consider the proton therapy as "buying time". Do they not feel that the proton radiation would ki...

AllieG33 and Roscoe were both talking about getting metastatic tumors treated with proton radiation therapy.

I'd be upset too. But the doctors are telling you it's not a problem, so try not to worry.

I hope your surgery goes well and you have a fast recovery.

I use a heating pad pretty often for abdominal. I knew you could get a burn, but I didn't know about the skin problems. I do make sure I have something like my PJ's between the heating pad and my skin.

I hope yours clears up quickly.

Re: HAI pump successful for candidates with lung metastases?

The secretary you spoke to may have misunderstood if you were asking if the HAI pump works on lung mets. HAI would only treat the liver mets. Although Kemeny specializes in the HAI pump, she has seen patients with only lung mets - not many. Try to get in to see her as a second opinion. I know that o...
